Chapter 2

Marleigh blinked with shock. "Die? Do you know who?"

"No, but the person kept on calling out for me."

"Do you know where you were?"

"I think I was in a dark alley and I was out of breath too, but I'm not sure."

"Are there any deaths you remember from your past?"

"Not really, I mean, my mom's family and dad's family aren't that nice. They don't really want to know me."

        "Hmm. Close friend?"

"Nope."

"Sibling?"

I remained quiet. The conversation I had overheard began playing in my mind.

"Maybe, but---"

"But what?"

"I only have one brother and one sister."

"Even so, I think we should dig a little deeper into your family's past."

"But, but do you even know how many Kornus' are in the world?! That could take years!"

"Well then, we'll start with you."

"Me?"

"Yeah, why?"

"I don't know, aren't we supposed to start with grandparents?"

"We are, but I bet you don't even know their names."

"You're right." I quietly admitted.

"Okay, well let's get to P.E. and we can figure this out after school, when I get home from practice."

I nodded and followed Marleigh out the door.

Once we were in our P.E. clothes and waiting to play against a team, I was pretty pumped. I mean come on wouldn't you be pumped once you smelled the fresh air and got the adrenaline of football pumping in your veins?

Yeah, thought so. Well as I was waiting, I heard a rumor that we were playing softball with another class. Now see, I would've been fine with it, but I don't have a very good history with softball and all the wanna-be-gangsters were in the class we were supposed to play against.

Unfortunately, the rumor was true and I had to struggle in keeping my mouth shut just because the act the gangsters were playing. I was ready for someone to bat when I heard someone yell, "Sky watch out!"

I turned and felt something slam into my collarbone. I felt my breath knocked out, and the hard, packed dirt met my butt.

I guess I passed out because after that, I felt myself being pushed in a wheelchair.

I groaned and said, "What happened?"

"Sky! Don't move and don't talke much. Your collarbone got hit pretty bad."

I didn't know what they meant, but right when I moved, it seriously hurt just like the time I got hit in the face with a football.

I saw the health office a few feet away, but it somehow turned into a memory.

I was in a similar place like the school, but it had a different environment. I saw people rushing to this old man who was bleeding. All around, there were bodies. I could hear people crying out for their loved ones. Once I took a step, I was jolted back to reality and I realized why.

Because I was being taken out of the wheelchair.

I shuddered at the thought of so much death.
