Chapter 5
That night was a little chilly, but it didn't bother me. My home was a lot colder than that. I was just wandering around, but my feet took me to Marcyn Plaza. I sat down on one of the wooden sidewalks and slowly began to cry. It was weird crying in public, but it wasn't like anyone was going to see me. As soon as the tears stopped falling, I pulled myself together, but it was too late.
"I always see you here."
"Jack." I hissed. "Don't you have anyone else to bother? And what about that warning I gave you?"
"Well you're talking to me now aren't you?"
I sighed. "Whatever."
He sat down next to me without a word.
"So what are you doing here?" He asked.
"I could say the same to you."
"I'm homeless that's all."
I was speechless. I mean come on, how can a guy who is the most popular guy in school be homeless?
"Wow."
"Yeah... What's your reason?"
"I ran away."
"How come?"
"It's complicated and a long story."
"I have all the time in the world."
I sighed. "You never give up, do you?"
"Nope."
And I guess that was when I started trust Jack.
"My mom thinks I'm reckless and she doesn't believe a word I say."
But I couldn't stop there, I decided to tell him everything. By the time I finished, it was probably midnight, but he might've been the first sane person I met since the day I went crazy.
He was silent for a few minutes and I was afraid he thought I was on crack, but you know what he said to me after that?
"Can I help?"
I couldn't help, but blink. "What?"
"Can I help you figure it out?"
"Sure." I was a bit dazed, but I felt relieved that I didn't have to go on an adventure all on my own. But one thing did make me suspicious.
"Why do you want to help?"
"I don't know, but I feel like there's a connection."
"Oh."
"Well now what?"
"What?"
"Where do we go from here? I mean we're both homeless."
"Well how did you live before discovering that I was homeless?"
"I crashed at other people's houses, but now I'm on my own."
I sighed. "Well that's helpful."
"We could..."
"What?"
"Stay here."
"But aren't you afraid of this place?"
"Yeah, but where else can we stay?"
"I don't know. I guess we could stay here."
"Cool, I know the perfect place."
I followed Jack to the farthest part of Marcyn Plaza and even though I already saw everything, I was a little creeped out. I shivered and suddenly Jack became the gentleman of the night.
