[Local News Break — 10 o'clock Morning News]
[Camera view of the Belport Bulletin newsroom. Bethany Wonder sits alone at the desk. She's wearing a black blazer with her white hair pulled back into a ponytail. There is a slight tension in her posture as Bethany shuffles her papers.]
"Last night, chaos erupted in what was once a quiet, peaceful neighborhood on the city's east side. What should have been an ordinary evening turned into a battlefield, as rogue vigilantes—led by the villain Emmett Laraway—launched a reckless and violent assault against the city's security forces.
"The conflict, which spanned several city blocks, resulted in widespread property damage, multiple injuries, and a sense of deep unease among residents who were forced to flee their homes in terror."
[Bethany pauses. She looks down at her script, presses her lips together, then continues.]
"According to official reports, Summit forces and Binary Brotherhood security personnel were engaged in a lawful operation when they were ambushed by Laraway and his associates. Eyewitnesses describe the scene as a 'war zone,' with vigilantes employing high-powered weaponry, experimental technology, and enhanced abilities against the authorities."
[The broadcast cuts to footage from the attack. The videos are taken from a mix of sources—some from drones, others from security cameras and cell phones—and some footage is clearer than others.
[Figures move in the dark, punctuated by flashes of light—energy blasts, gunfire, the glow of futuristic weaponry. Civilians run across the street in fear. A distorted voice shouts something unintelligible. One drone crashes into a house, while another crashes onto a parked car, setting off its alarm. The footage cuts.]
"Residents have been left shaken by the destruction, their once-safe streets now littered with debris. I spoke to one local who witnessed the battle firsthand."
[The screen cuts to an interview. A middle-aged man stands outside a house with a shattered window behind him. His face blurred for anonymity.]
"It was just horrifying. These guys were running around like it's some action movie, tossing fire and metal everywhere. I don't care what their reasons are, we got families out here—kids. This ain't the place for a super-powered brawl. Who do they think they are?"
[Cut back to Bethany, who exhales quietly before continuing.]
"Authorities have yet to release an official casualty count, but early reports indicate that numerous individuals—both civilian and official—sustained injuries.
"Summit representatives have declined to comment on whether any of their personnel were among the wounded, though sources close to The Bulletin confirm that several high-profile capes were deployed as part of the operation. Their names are currently being withheld for security reasons."
[She flips a page on her notes and hesitates a moment before continuing.]
"The alleged mastermind behind the attack, Laraway, is no stranger to controversy. He was behind the assault on the Gnosis corporation headquarters here in Belport almost two years ago, as well as numerous attacks on Summit headquarters. His technological enhancements have only grown more sophisticated, and his disregard for public safety is becoming increasingly evident. Artificers within the Binary Brotherhood are questioning the villain's sanity, saying that he will only grow more dangerous the less human he becomes.
"His known associates—including Clara Venture—were also spotted during the battle. Each of them are just as powerful and dangerous as Laraway."
[She glances off-camera, as if considering her next words carefully.]
