Prologue  

My name is Colin Hagan. This is my story of how determination and never quitting can bring your dreams true. My dream was to become the fastest dirtbike rider in the world. At the age of fifty-four, I've accomplished that goal and more. I'm a dirtbiker, and this is my story. 

My dad bought me my first dirtbike at the age of four. It was the finest PW 50 that he could find. After the first time I rode it, even at the age of only four, I knew that this was going to be my life.  

I wasn't born with talent; I had to put in the hard work to get it. My dad transferred me to every amateur race possible. After my first year, I only had two top ten finishes out of twenty races. I had much to learn.  

Before I ever went to an amateur race again, I had to learn how to ride the bike better. I decided to join the amateur racing circuit again at the age of twelve at Loretta Lyn's. I just had gotten a brand new CR 85. (My dad searched for every penny in the house in order to buy it!) I surprised everyone by grabbing the holeshot and checking out for half the race. At the halfway point I had a slim lead over Colton Nurenburg. We battled all the way to the finish. At the checkers, I had won by just under a second! In the second moto, I grabbed the holeshot again but this time Colton was right behind me. At around the midway point, he passed me and I got my first taste of Loretta roost. With two laps to go, Colton fell down and I saw my chance. I wasn't able to pass him at that point, but I knew that I could pass him on the last lap. And with about three corners to go, I block passed him for the lead and win. I was grinning from ear to ear! Colton rode for the factory Kawasaki team, the one I dreamed to ride on. After the race, the Kawasaki team approached me and said that they were surprised at how great I rode. They offered me a four year contract with their team! I immediately asked if they were joking, and they said no. I almost fainted. I said yes and told my Mom and Dad. They were so surprised! To this day, I still think that day was the turning point in my career.
