Motocross started off well enough. At Hangtown, I rode to 4th and 3rd place finishes in the two motos. I was still partly disappointed, though, because I had expected to be battling for the top spot in BOTH motos. Instead, in the first moto, I got a bad start and rode up to fourth. In the second moto, I got the holeshot but was quickly dropped by the stars of moto one: Adam Cianciarulo and Cooper Webb. So I just rode around in third for the whole moto. But the next race would go better.
Following a strict week of testing, I came into round 2 much more prepared. And I showed it. I qualified 3rd; much better than last weekend when I qualified 9th.
In the first moto, I nailed the holeshot and tried to break away just like in amateurs. But Cianciarulo was right on my tail. We battled for about ten laps when he finally passed me. One lap later, I passed him in the same spot that he passed me! I was really happy; especially after I gained about a three second lead after I passed him. But when the two lap board came out, he was all over me again. I held him off, held him off, and the next thing I new, I was at the checkers! I was ecstatic for my first moto win. What were my thoughts? Let's go for the overall!
And that's what I did in the second moto. I once again grabbed the holeshot and this time I ran away from the field. By the time Cooper (who had finished 3rd in the first moto, ten seconds behind me) and Adam had gotten into second and third, I already had an eleven second lead! At the end of the race, I won twelve seconds in front of second place! I was so happy and overjoyed with glee from the whole day. Now, I thought, let's go after the championship!
