"welcome to badlands hotel! how can we service you?" a lady spoke from the desk.she didn't turn around, her back was to luke the entire time she spoke.
"umm, i'm in room 93?" luke remarked.
the lady opened a drawer in front of her and grabbed the only key visible in the space.
she threw the keys back onto the front desk still refusing to turn and show her face.
luke questioned the whole scene, wondering if this was some type of practical joke they were playing on him.
he slowly and cautiously approached the desk, and picked up the keys.
"will you need help with your bag? it looks a bit heavy," she suggested.
"no, thank you."
luke walked out of the lobby and into the elevator, but his heart skipped a beat when he realized something.
how did she know he had one, heavy-looking bag?
she didn't turn to him the entire time.
luke tried to catch a glimpse of her face, but she had turned to look away from him, yet again.
the elevator doors shut.
luke never pressed any of the buttons.
at this point, luke had been in badlands for no more than an hour, and he already wanted to get out.
"fucking creepy as hell. what even is this place?" luke muttered to himself.
the elevator went up, only two floors before stopping abruptly at what he assumed was his floor.
the doors slid open, and luke began to follow the guides on the walls that would lead to his room.
room 93.
after a few wrong turns that eventually turned into the right ones, luke stood in front of his room.
he opened the door with the key, and proceeded into his ratty room.
there was a queen sized bed facing the wrong way, of course, and bleach stains on the puke green carpeting.
the walls were pink, with paintings of the badlands mountains.
the bathroom was normal, and there was a mini fridge near the dresser.
instead of a TV, there was a radio.
a fucking radio.
luke, however, was hung up on the fact that the bed was facing the wrong way.
"are you kidding me?" he scoffed.
everything was strange.
luke was the only thing here that wasn't strange.
but even he couldn't promise himself that.
he hoisted his bag onto the backwards bed, and opened it up.
luke's bag consisted of mostly black clothing, and some gray pieces.
he took out the clothes, and made piles on the bed that would soon be put into the dresser.
luke opened the first drawer, and placed the piles mindlessly into them, until he reached the last one.
he cringed at the contents of the drawer, and stepped back a little.
inside, were ripped pieces of a bloody gauze, and a set of blades.
"what the hell?" luke stammered.
he dropped the pile of clothes and took the elevator back downstairs, to the lobby.
the lady spun around to hide her front from luke, yet again.
she stumbled across her words as she said, "uh h-how can i service you."
luke ignored her oddness, and got straight to the point.
"there's bloody gauze and blades in one of my drawers. and the bed is backwards. is there any other room in the hotel i could move to?" luke complained.
the lady gripped the sides of the counters and sneered, "we're at capacity. there aren't any more rooms, sir. and the beds are made that way so you can see the view of badlands while you sleep."
the blood rushed from luke's face.
how is that possible, he thought
i haven't seen a single person breathe in my direction.
however, luke did not want to anger the faceless woman.
he politely croaked out, "okay, i'll dispose off the blades and gauze myself."
the lady slammed the desk and hissed, "no! don't do that. keep it there."
luke jumped at her response, but she coughed and poised herself before replying, "our staff will take care of that. in the meantime, you should venture across the mountains. look around badlands yourself!"
he swallowed before responding, "actually, it's getting a bit dark outside. quite quickly too. i think i'm going to relax in my room for the rest of the night."
luke speed walked back to the elevator, and ran back into his room, locking the door behind him.
he stuffed the rest of his clothes in the drawers he already used, ignoring the bacteria infested one to his right.
luke took off his shoes, and sat on the bed.
he looked at the view the woman was talking about.
it was quite pretty, to be honest.
the mountains were such a gorgeous sandy color that they almost seemed pink, and no two mountains looked the same.
they were all unique and different in their own way, but still beautiful.
the sun was going down, and luke began to wonder where the day went.
a bunch of creepy people, creepy places.
luke laid down, and shut his eyes.
he wasn't going to let what happened today keep him from sleeping.
but when the radio hissed on, and he heard that screaming voice again,
the thought of sleep disappeared from luke's mind.
it was replaced with fear and horror of the hissing object behind him.
