"Life is almost like duck, duck, goose Jane. Have you ever played that before? " Janes untamed eyebrows furrowed in confusion in the direction of their conversation, one second this creature was telling her how he could make all her dreams come true and then the next he was giving her a speech that reminded her of a film she had seen years before called 'Forest Gump' only this time the quote was: "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get."
Hesitantly Jane nodded her head making Harry smile in satisfaction that Jane hadn't lived under a rock all her life. "That's good.. So you should know that there are some ducks in this world and some gooses yeah?" Jane bit her lip in thought. "I, uh, I suppose so yeah." She awkwardly said when in reality she had no clue what he was talking about.
"See? We are making progress. Anyways, let me tell you something Jane something my father told me when I was just a little boy." The tone in Harry's voice changed, his voice glistening in something that resembled resentment, Jane had no time to react before Harry had vanished from her sight and she could now feel him behind her, his cool breath panting softly in her ear.
"My father was a cruel bastard really but that's for another time. My father liked to tell me that life was like Duck, Duck, Goose. The seeker was the manipulator that he or she controlled everything to his or her advantage and the ducks were just his or her spawns or rather his or her followers that were similar to him or her but different. Are you following Jane? Are you listening yeah?" Harry's voice rose in volume and he tugged on her hair harshly before biting her ear and tipping her head back making her release a cry.
"Sorry..I had to make sure I had your attention, now that I know I do I can continue." Harry chuckled before clearing his throat and continuing with his story, his eyes slightly narrowed. "Where was I? Oh yes, the ducks would follow the seeker and wait upon his or her command. They loved the control that person had in the game but they also secretly feared the seeker. Do you know why Jane?"
He stared at her patiently, watching her eyes flicker across his face as if that would reveal anything, her lips part and the answer she gives him makes a smile appear on his face and it's enough for him to realise that she is the perfect woman for the job. "T- they secretly feared the seeker because they didn't want to be the goose. The goose in Duck, Duck, Goose was the victim, the one that reached the demise and would either win the chase or lose the chase."
"Very good Jane, now answer me this, who do you think you are in this?" Jane squeezed her eyes shut and chocked back her sobs.
"I'm the goose." A few minutes of silence came floating over, Janes shaky breathing and the sounds of the grandfather clock being the only noises heard as the pair sat next to each other.
"I've been thinking, I'll need an assistant in order to make sure my future plans work wonderfully so what better way to make that happen then to use you as bait?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're going to be my bait, my second in command if you will. Of course, if you behave then I'll reward you."
"I don't believe you." Jane declared, her head shaking as she once again attempted to free herself of the bondages around her wrists and ankles.
"Well you should, I am a man of my word. I'm going to show you that I am by offering you something that you will simply not refuse." Janes ears perked up, a giddy expression evolving onto her face, it was in that moment that Harry knew he had her right where he wanted her.
"What's the offer?" Jane asked excitedly, she was intrigued to find out what he had to offer.
"You become my bait and I'll rid you of your cheating husband."
"Rid him How?" Jane asked carefully, her eyebrows for rowing as she weighed her pros and cons.
"Exactly as it says on the tin, I'll crush him in return for your agreement."
"Okay.." Jane nods to herself. "I'll do it."
"You have just made the right decision Jane, well done."
A piece of paper appears in front of Jane along with a quill with red ink, Jane failed to read the small print that was on the piece of paper, her hand greedily reaching for the quill before she signed her name on the dotted line. "Alright," Harry hummed before he snapped his fingers making the paper and quill dissapear.
"Here's the plan dear Jane."
Finally, after Harry had finished discussing his plan he sighed in utter exhaustion and stepped back.
"You're free to go now Jane. Do not say a word of this to anyone otherwise I will have to punish you." Jane furiously nodded her head and clumsily tripped on her feet when rushing to grab her bag and coat that was lying lifelessly on a coat hanger by the door.
"Oh, and another thing dear Jane." Before Jane could reach for the door handle, Harry had placed his hand on the door, his body caving in on her. "This isn't the last time you will see me, we will meet again and when we do it'll be for when you need to do your side of the deal."
He stepped back and Jane didn't hesitate in rushing out, leaving Harry madly laughing to himself.
