"Oh my goodness Erica, you would not believe what happened on the way up to your house," I was sitting on the bench on the practice field during our water break.
"I was stalked almost half way to your house!"
Her jaw dropped.
"WHAT!? Girl, why didn't you call me? I would ‘a come, and beat whoever it was, up into a pulp!"
Her eyes got HUGE as she yelled at me.
"Quit your preaching, I don't think this guy meant any harm. His name was Jake. He just moved in." Her attitude switched automatically.
"Oooo, a boy was fallowing you? So was this 'Jake' a hottie?"
She moved in closer with her eyebrow raised. I pushed her aside, and felt my face go red again. "Yes, he had appealing physical appearances, ha-ha."
"So do you like him?" her eyebrow started to rise further up.
My smile faded quickly. "No." I replied quietly.
Her face changed and she scooted closer to me as she put her arm around me. Her voice got softer.
"This doesn't have anything to do about Alec, does it?" I didn't answer. "Abby, Abby, Abigail, you can't let one bad guy ruin the chance to meet other guys or make other relationships. Alec is serving his consequences. You need to move passed it. That was almost a year ago, Hun."
She was trying to be a good friend, but to be honest, the dating field just wasn't my place to be at the moment, and I was getting tired of her trying to push me into it.
"I'm just not ready yet, I need some more time. How I see it, we were together almost two years. I do believe I'll be good for a couple more years." I gave a small grin. "
I just met Jake anyway, maybe I can get to know him during the next century. "
I gave a big smile with saying that. I stood up and sipped the last bit of my Gatorade.
"Now, if you'll excuse me I’m going back to my beloved Susie."
I smiled and started to walk back to the spot where I had left my silver sousaphone. I picked it up and slid it over my head and onto my shoulders.
I loved the feeling of it. It made me feel bigger and stronger than I probably really was.
Heck, I was just about better than the boys on the tuba line.
I really just felt secure with my Susie. It was heavy enough to do some damage, but perfect enough for me. I smiled at the thought.
Then "BBRRWACK!!!" I let all my air loose and blew as hard as I could, causing an echo amongst everyone else. With this the drum major decided it was time to get back to work.
When I got home mom was just putting her plate up from eating dinner.
"Hey Momma, how was missing me?” I giggled, but got no reply back. "Mom? Is everything ok?"
She turned around and surprised me with a smile.
"You'd never guess who just called me about twenty minutes ago." her cheeks were pink.
"Who, mom?" It must have been a good call.
"Erica." She leaned back against the sink facing me.
Ok...what's so extraordinary about this? She calls me all the time.
"Oh, what did she want?" What could she have had to tell my mom? I just left her house.
"Who's Jake?" Her face was bright and her blue eyes seemed to sparkle a bit. , I could defiantly tell she was curious and wanted details. Me? I just wanted it dropped.
I looked down at my feet. “No one really. Just some guy that just moved into the house up the road."
AHHH!!! I could feel my face flush red just thinking of this guy, let alone talking about him.
"Ah, I see. Erica told me about how he walked you t-"
"Nothing mom. He means nothing." I looked her in the eye trying to make my point. She backed off and dropped it.
"Sorry. I’m gunna go hang out in my room."
As much as she wanted me to start being with a guy, as much as I did, I didn't trust boys, not after Alec. Not after the one I actually loved, betrayed me.
No, never again.
Though, Jake didn't seem to be so bad, then again neither did Alec....
Ugh....I'm stuck.
Why?
All I was interested in was looking for just that one guy, the one that would complete me so to say.
As I debated with myself, I changed into a black tank top and some lounge pants. I sat on my bed flustered. Why is it now that I'm so worried about one guy?
While I laid there I looked at my phone. Surprisingly, I had two new texts and a voicemail from Erica.
One text was from Erica, reading:
'Abs, I know you probably wanna kill me for tellin ur momma 'bout Jake, I couldn’t help. Hun, I really think this maybe very good you....CALL ME!!! - ERICA'
I sighed. I know she really meant well, just like my mom. Before I answered her back I flipped to the next one from Elliot, a girl I met in gym my freshman year. All she said was "Hey" so I wasn't too concerned about texting her back right away.
Now for the voicemail.
I paced around my room waiting for voicemail to connect. I stood in front of my widow and looked down towards the house I saw the moving trucks at earlier.
Jake was sitting on his porch talking on his phone. Suddenly I was connected and listening to my dad's voice on the other end.
“Hey baby Girl, I was just checking in on you. I know we really haven't talked in depth about life since...well you know, but I really hope you have this behind you Abby. You deserve the best, that’s all I ever wanted for you."
He let out a loud disgruntled sigh
. "I swear Abigail, if you ever have a guy trying to beat you and you keep it to yourself again that’s it, I will have your momma pack you up and send you to live with me in a heartbeat. Please baby, show them boys whose boss, If you have to kick 'em in the groin....HARD! Guys like that don’t need to reproduce anyway.... Well baby girl I love you. Call me when you get the chance, I love you so much......END OF VOICEMAIL MESSAGES."
I smiled to hear his voice but his words left a big punch in the gut feeling.
Oh daddy....
I let out a sigh and flopped my back onto my bed.
My hands covered my face. The longer side of my long hair was now bothering me so I quickly pulled it up into a ponytail before dialing Erica's number.
It almost automatically went straight to voicemail.
"Dang it."
"Hey Erica I’m just returning your call,"
I let out a deep sigh,
“Just call me back when you get this, I could really use someone to talk to, get some things off my chest. Bye."
I hung up and set my phone on the lamp stand next to my bed.
I laid there for what seemed hours waiting for a call back from Erica. It had only been an hour, so I flipped my TV on and watched 'Scrubs' reruns.
Between the soft sounds of the AC, my fan and the TV I found it relaxing. I let out a big yawn, and just layed there snuggled in all of my blankets and comforters, with my pillows around me.
My eyelids felt heaveier, fighting stay open.
I found myself pictureing Jake, how I would picture him, since knew nearly nothnig of him.
Saxaphone, 205, cute. My knowledge of the subject "Jake"
I shifted a bit and closed my eyes.
I crashed and gave into sleep.
