Everyone else in the Adams-Foster family had long since gone to bed, but that didn't stop Jude and Connor from staying outside in the backyard, where they'd spent most of the evening. Most of the evening was dedicated to playing games and getting into play-fights, but as the night took over, they found themselves laying side by side in the grass. When they found as many constellations as they could, Jude thought it was fun to look for other shapes. All of which, Connor couldn't see, convincing him it was all in his head.
"Okay, fine, do you see that one?" Jude's hand shot up to point at the midnight blue sky, freckled with stars, as he traced his finger in a dizzying pattern.
Connor laughed while trying to follow along. "No, I really don't. All I see are a bunch of random stars," he admitted.
"Move closer and follow where I'm pointing," Jude said.
Connor scooted even closer, their heads connected as he followed Jude's index finger, tracing from star to star. Jude thought it was interesting how they each saw completely different things when looking at the same thing.
"What am I looking for?" Connor asked.
"Well to me, it looks exactly like the shape of a bird," Jude replied.
"Nope, don't see it."
Jude sighed and dropped his arm back to his side. Connor slid his arm under Jude and around his waist. Jude reached across and held his hand, smiling as he continued searching for random shapes among the stars.
"Can we just stay here like this forever?" Jude asked.
"I wish. Tonight is perfect."
The two sat in silence for a few minutes, just watching the flashing and flickering of the sequin-silver scattered across the night sky.
"If I lay here..." Connor mumbled lyrics so quietly, Jude wouldn't have heard if he wasn't paying attention.
"Hmm?"
"If I just lay here..."
Jude only took a moment before recognizing the song, and was almost suppressing laughter at how cheesy his boyfriend was.
"Would you lie with me and, just forget the world." Connor gradually became louder with each thread of lyrics, but was holding back his own laughter, knowing he was as cheesy as Jude thought he was.
"I don't quite know, how to say, how I feel," this time, Jude joined in.
"Those three words, are said too much. They're not enough."
"If I lay here," they both belted out, exaggerating the lyrics with a nearly humorous manor. "If I just lay here. Would you lie with me, and just forget the world..." They broke out in laughter at how, that really did just happen.
"What just happened?" Jude asked, giggling.
"You can call it whatever you want, but we just went full on high school musical," Connor said, laughing at what he started.
"Some random movie-moment where the characters just burst into song and no one questions it," Jude said.
"Only us."
"Only us," Jude agreed.
