"Mom, I'm leaving!" Jude shouted up the stairs to Lena.

"Okay, where are you going?" She called back.

"Connor's house. We'll probably just watch a movie, maybe do homework." Jude was spinning the knob under his hand, waiting for her approval.

"Okay, have fun. Curfew is 9:00."

He opened the door, shouted goodbye, and left.

Jude arrived within five minutes, counting 213 steps along the way, instead of the usual 234 or 241. He entered the familiar house of his best friend, without knocking. They had been friends for so long, there was no point in knocking when his dad wasn't home. The first thing he noticed, was that Connor wasn't anywhere to be found.

"Con?" He called out.

"Upstairs!" Connor shouted.

Jude set his bag down and sat on the couch in the living room, putting his feet up on the coffee table as he waited for Connor to join him.

"Hey, sorry for the wait." Connor bounded over and sat next to him.

"It's all good. So, movie?" Jude asked.

"Actually, I was thinking maybe we could go down to the beach. It's really nice out today, and I'd rather not spend the day inside."

Jude shrugged, "sounds good to me."

"Cool, I'll go get the stuff." Connor got up from the couch, and Jude turned around to watch him walk away.

"Stuff?"

"Coolers."

Jude stood up to follow him into the kitchen. "Coolers? You're bringing alcohol?"

"Yup. Come on, it'll be fun," Connor said, putting a few bottles into his bag.

Jude wasn't sure how to feel about this, but he somehow agreed to it.

They'd been walking along the beach for a few minutes before deciding on a seemingly deserted area to sit down.

Connor opened his bag and took out a blue bottle. If Jude didn't know any better, he would think it looked like mouthwash. Connor handed him a red one, which read 'raspberry.'

He watched Connor take the first sip before he could muster up the courage to take a sip from his own.

When Jude wasn't drinking yet, Connor looked over and noticed him staring at it questioningly. "You've never drank before, right?"

Jude shook his head, "no. I mean unless you count a sip of wine at my moms wedding, but have I ever drank on my own? No," he confessed.

"Well go for it," Connor urged, smiling at his friend. "No one's here to stop us from having a good time."

And so he went for it. He tipped it back and took the first sip. Starting off slowly, he only got a small amount, judging the taste and feeling before going for a second.

Third,

Fourth,

Fifth.

By the time Connor finished a second cooler, Jude was finally finished the first. Never having drank before, Jude wasn't entirely sure if it was all in his head, or if he was feeling the affects already, but he could tell he was off, so he decided to stop at one.

"Feeling okay?" Connor asked.

Jude nodded, "I'm good, but I think I'm gonna stop."

Connor stood up and offered his hand to Jude. Hesitantly, Jude accepted the help up, and regained his balance once he was up.

"You're it," Connor tapped his shoulder and started running.

Jude couldn't process fast enough when he started chasing Connor, only to shout, "what are we, six?" And proceed to run after him.

"Add ten years. You're never too old for tag," Connor yelled back, running backwards.

Jude rolled his eyes good-naturedly and played along. Much to his surprise, he caught up to Connor. Connor turned around, continuing running backwards when he realized Jude was a lot closer to him. Right as Jude reached out to tag him, he tripped, pushing Connor down with him as he fell ungracefully on top of him.

"Sorry!" Jude exclaimed.

"You okay?" Connor laughed.

"Yeah." Jude moved off of Connor and laid down beside him.

"Well that was fun," Connor commented.

Jude giggled, "yeah, kind of exciting," he said without much thought behind his choice of words.

Connor turned to his blushing friend. "What?" He asked cheekily. "Falling on me?"

"No," Jude insisted, blushing.

"Dirty minded much?"

Jude hit his arm. "Shut up." Jude's face was as red as the drink he'd just consumed.

Connor snorted. "I think you're just a tad too sober still."

"Am I?" Jude asked incredulously. "I mean I kinda spent my whole life being sober. This doesn't feel like that."

"Yeah but you're not drunk. There's two more coolers still," Connor suggested.

"What's the goal? Get so drunk, we make out and blame the alcohol?" Once Jude realized he really did say that out loud, he quickly tried to cover it. "I mean... I'm totally kidding."

Connor barked a laugh, interrupting any chance to backtrack. "You're not kidding, Jude. Get real."

"Shut up," Jude blushed even more and turned away from Connor.

"Fine, but I'd be lying if I told you I didn't want to totally make out with you right now," Connor admitted.

Jude sat up and whipped his attention back to him, eyes wide as he gaped at him. "W-what?"

Connor sat up after. "But if you're just joking, then..." Connor teased, a smug look spreading across his features.

Jude revealed what he was thinking, (or not thinking) by pressing his lips firmly to Connor's. Connor grinned against Jude's lips at the move and pulled him closer, deepening their kiss.

Neither could say how long it lasted, because all that mattered was that after years of wanting to, they finally were kissing each other, feeling like they were both on the same page in this moment.

When they finally separated, Connor was running his thumb along Jude's bicep, smiling at the instant replay of what just happened, that ran through his mind.

"Maybe we should drink together more often," Connor smirked.
