The next morning, I found myself sitting up in bed and rubbing the sides of my head back and forth. I woke up this morning with a headache painful enough to bring God himself to his knees.
Oh, the things I would do for yesterday to not have happened at all. My legs swung off the side of the bed as I turned to get up, making my head spin. I walked over to the bathroom connected to the master bedroom. The house had another bathroom down the hall, as well as the guest bedroom.
My eyes met with the ones in the reflection of the bathroom mirror. It saddened me to find that they didn't look like mine at all. At least, not how I knew them to be. They looked tired and dull. My usually vibrant green had now turned into a dreary grayish-blue.
I had hardly slept last night, regardless of how exhausted I was. The entire night was filled with tossing and turning, and now it showed. The black circles under my eyes and the ghostly pallor that I considered my complexion proved it all.
My hands went up to push the hair out of my face. It was in black uncontrolled knots that I was in no mood to try and overpower. My hair fell back to show light blue and purple bruises around my neck.
I looked down at my arms. There were bruises on my wrists and little paper-cut sized slices around my fingertips from the glass.
After I had walked away from Vic last night, everything just became so much more real.
Yesterday
I slipped my phone into my back pocket and blinked away the tears that formed in my eyes. I sighed deeply before turning to face Vic who was staring at me with concern.
"Please don't look at me like that," I whispered, "I'm not helpless anymore."
His gaze saddened even more. My head shook in surrender. To what, I'm not sure.
"Do you want anything to drink or eat? We have Sprite." I smiled to myself, my eyes were not meeting his. Vic always wanted Sprite whenever we had it, and when we didn't have it, he'd want to go buy some.
"Oh god, I would love one," he groaned melodramatically, making me laugh.
"Alright, come on. I'll show you where th-" I stopped mid-sentence, realizing that he already knew where the kitchen was. "W-where the sodas are." My cheeks turned bright red. I could feel his stare on me so I turned quickly and walked towards the kitchen, assuming he would follow.
I turned the corner into the kitchen, everything had stayed the same to me. But to Vic? It probably appeared miles from what it was before. I walked to the fridge and opened it, grabbing a Sprite for Vic and a Monster for myself.
"Catch!" I tossed the Sprite to Vic, not really checking to see if he was paying attention or not.
Thankfully he was. Or at least, I think he was. Vic's back was half turned away from me, looking around at the changes in the house from since he'd last been here. When I threw the drink to him, he whipped around faster than I ever could have. I was brought to full attention when I heard the sound of objects shattering onto the floor.
I turned to see Vic, one hand holding the soda high above his head while the other hand was held tightly at his side, his lips slightly parted releasing shaky breaths. Every single muscle was tensed and he was trembling so badly that it looked like he had been left in the cold for hours. His eyes were as wide as a deer caught in headlights. He was as frozen as one, too, not moving as if his life depended on it.
"Vic?" I looked around at the broken dishes on the ground. Vic didn't turn to face me, he didn't even move. I placed my Monster on the counter and tentatively took a step forward.
