Loss traps people in place. In time. When a part of the heart is gouged out, it takes all its warmth with it. In its place, cold grief freezes the heart, the body, until nothing moves at all.

Everyone felt the loss of Finn Collins and for a long time, no one in Camp Jaha moved, letting the screams of Raven's anguish fill the silence no one else could bear to break. But while grief is a curse, mourning is a luxury.

The screams have shrunk into sobs when Amber notices Kane and Griffin walk out through the gate, and when she realizes who they are heading for, she hurries through camp to follow. They're already too close to the Grounder army to send her back when she catches up to them. Can't let the enemy know they struggle to even control teenagers.

But as they're shown into the tent Clarke has retreated inside of, Amber is ordered to wait outside. She paces, biting her knuckles raw. She isn't sure what unsettles her most—not knowing what is being said inside the tent, the silent Grounders surrounding her with skull masks and blades, or the knowledge forced upon her that Finn's body lies just at the edge of her vision, left in the dirt and his own blood.

Fabric shifts and she turns as people finally step out of the tent.

"Clarke!"

The blonde lifts her head but the blue eyes have never been more distant. Amber halts. There is nothing she could ever say to make those eyes light again. She is as speechless in front of Clarke as she was in front of Finn when she let him walk to his death.

But it wasn't words that finally gave Finn that last bit of needed courage. It was a simple hug.

She throws her arms around Clarke, and suddenly the words find her. "You saved him. That doesn't make you a bad person, it makes you a better person than any of us... Thank you."

There is no response, but Amber feels how Clarke relaxes so she holds her still for a moment. It's not long however before Clarke straightens her back with a short sniffle. Amber steps away, taking the hint. She's grateful for whatever she can offer their leader, however small.

Clarke's gaze has caught on something, but it returns to give Amber a faint nod before she walks past her. When Amber turns around, she spots Raven a short distance away, kneeled over Finn's body. She's quiet now. Somehow that's worse.

Swallowing her caution, Amber follows Clarke. She wouldn't disturb the mourning of someone she too loved if it wasn't important.

"Go away," Raven mutters when they reach her.

"Raven, I'm sorry." The whisper that escapes Clarke is as light as a breeze, barely audible.

Raven scrambles to her feet. "I said go away!"

Clarke stands firm in place when she rushes forward. Amber doesn't feel as brave, but her fear of Raven's grief isn't stronger than her sympathy for Clarke's, so she stands by their leader as she with a taut voice says, "I know how hard this must be for you... But I'm leaving with the Grounders and I need you to keep working on the radio."

Raven whirls around when two Grounders walk up and take hold of Finn's body.

"What are you doing- What are you doing?"

"They need to take him now." Clarke grabs at her arm to stop her from getting involved and Amber swallows in a poor attempt to release the knots in her stomach.
