Bill woke up in a cold sweat. He had had the dream again. The dream where he became a monster. A monster that nobody could stop. Mabel, being awake at this time, noticed the shock on the young blonde's face and decided to confront him.
The two, out of pity for the boy, had found sleeping bags in his closet and slept over. Bill's bed nearest to the window, Mabel's sleeping bag nearest to the bed, and Dipper's closest to the closet.
"Hey, Bill, what's wrong?" She asked, her nasally voice in a whisper. "Oh, I-it's nothing, M. Just a reoccurring nightmare is all." "Oh. What's it about?" "Well, this is going to sound weird but, in my nightmare, I dream of being a monster. An oddly shaped monster." "W-what was it shaped like?" "It...If I recall correctly it's a triangle.." At this, the brunette gasped.
"W-what?! What's wrong?" Bill asked, pulling his sheets up to his face in fear. "D-did I say something?!" At this, Mabel chuckled nervously, "No, no, you didn't say anything wrong! It's just that...My brother and I have nightmares like those too!" She lied. "R-really? What happens?" He leaned closer, listening in. "W-Well one time we had this dream where-" But she was interrupted as a bed-headed Dipper awoke with a yawn.
Dipper stretched and sat up, "Good morning Ma-M," Dipper greeted, correcting himself. "Good morning Dip-Dot! Can you come with me to do something?" Mabel said in her normally cheerful voice. Dipper nodded and they walked out of the room to the bathroom.
As soon as they got to the secluded room, Mabel closed and locked the door behind her.
"Hey Mabel, what's the problem?" "Dipper! Bill just told me that he has a reoccurring nightmare of becoming a triangle monster!!" "That's great Mabel-wait what?!" D yelled, his eyes widening. "I know, right?! Dipper, this could be our chance to find out how Bill turned out the way he did!" The male twin smiled. Finally! Some excitement in this gosh darn era!
The two made it back into the room to see Bill up and ready for the day and, after the blonde left the room, got dressed one after the other, Mabel in her Shooting Star sweater and Dipper in his usual attire. Afterwards, they went downstairs, only to be welcomed by a delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. Bill was there, making waffles like it was nobody's business. When they were finished, the boy expertly flipped them each onto a plate.
Bill had not only cooked the waffles, but had also decorated them with ripe berries and topping it all off with maple syrup. After surprised looks from the twins, Bill smiled and explained that he had gone through rigorous cooking training because his father was too lazy to hire a maid.
"So," Dipper asked, between bites,"where are your parents?" "Oh," the single-eyed boy started, not expecting such a question. "Well, my mother was suffering from the flu virus when pregnant with me and died during childbirth. The disease crippled her so much that she was too weak. My father, accusing me of her death, left me when I was seven." At this, everyone stopped eating and stared at the boy.
"Wait, you can't die from the fl-" Dipper covered his sister's mouth and whispered into her ear. "Mabel, we're in a different time period! 1843! When Oregon was settled!" The female twin looked at her brother and mouthed an "oh" before nodding and looking back at Bill with a worried smile.
"You're probably wondering what happened to my eye, huh?" The twins looked at each-other and then back at the boy, nodding. "Well, as I said before, my mother was seriously effected by the flu, and her..Well..Condition combined..That i was born with a birth defect..," He said, starting to take off his eyepatch. "Promise not to scream?" He asked. The twins nodded and Bill revealed what was under his eyepatch. There was nothing there, in his eye at least. It was just a hole where his eye should've been. An empty socket. It looked like something straight from a horror movie.
Mabel had to cover her mouth to keep from screaming and Dipper almost threw up from the sheer sight of it alone. Before the twins could tell him to put the eyepatch back on, Bill did it himself, quickly tying the fabric in the back securely before dropping his arms by his sides, sadly.
"I'm sorry...I didn't mean to give you such a fright..." Dipper nodded in forgiveness and Mabel patted Bill on the back, comfortingly. The female of the group sighed,"I'm so sorry you had to endure such hatred!" She said, trying to speak like one would in those days. The male twin nodded in agreement, genuinely pitying the boy.
"What, may I ask, is that...head covering that you are wearing, D? I've never seen such a hat." "Oh, well uh," he looked at his sister, contemplating on whether or not to tell the pre-demon. "This is called a baseball cap," Dipper said, now confident enough to tell Bill. "It keeps the sun out of your eyes. Here, try it!" He said, giving the blonde the cap to try on. "Oh, no thanks, D, hey, do you mind if I called you Pinetree because of your hat and M, Shooting Star because of her attire?" "No, I don't mind," Dipper looked at his twin sister, waiting for a response to which he received a small nod. "and neither does M."
