Going Back Home

It was two years later and I was heading home. Jasper met someone and she was sweet. They got married in July and I was one of the bridesmaids. Serena was two years old now and she was the flower girl at Jaspers wedding. Jasper and Deanne told me I didn't have to leave but I said I missed mum and dad. My flight was long and Serena was naughty for most of it I tried to settle her but she just was too hypo.

By the time we got to Townsville I was exhausted I had to leave Serena on the jet while I headed down to get dad. "Hey" I hugged him and mum "can you grab Serena she's asleep" I asked dad, he headed into the jet and carried her out.

We headed home and I was so happy to be there. I messaged Jasper that we were home safe. I went into my room and it was the same. Dad placed Serena on my bed so that she didn't wake up by herself in a strange room. "Her room is down here" dad said and left the room with me following, mum went into my room to sit with Serena just in case she wakes up. Dad changed the spare room into her room and it was beautiful.

"It's beautiful dad" I said with a gasp. The room was purple, with a white bed that had a rail on the side. There was a butterfly shaped rug on the floor. There was also fairies and butterflies stickers on the wall over the bed.

"Hopefully she'll like it" he said with a smile. I hugged him and kissed his cheek.

"She'll love it" I said when I pulled away we smiled then headed to my room. Serena was still asleep and I yawned when we walked in.

"You need to go to bed sweetie" mum said before kissing Serena on the cheek and me then left. I placed Serena under the covers and got in beside her. I woke from a big smack on the head, Serena.

"Mummy" she said giggling.

"Good morning sweetie" I said with a smile. "Let's go and have breakfast"

We entered the kitchen to find dad behind mum kissing her on the neck. "Hey young eyes here" I said getting there attention and covering Serena's eyes but she just giggled.

"Sorry" dad said then came around and grabbed Serena into a big hug. She squealed loudly and giggled. "How was your sleep?" He asked us both.

"Great" I answered and Serena just giggled.

"Here's breakfast" mum said placing two bowls on the breakfast bench. One had cornflakes and the other had rice bubbles. Serena and I sat down and ate. After we were done dad showed Serena her bedroom and I heard her squeal from her room. She must love it I looked at mum who was smiling as much as me.

The day was full of talking and playing. It was Christmas in two weeks so mum and I were heading to the shops tomorrow to get presents. Dad was babysitting for me. Renee and Cameron will be here for Christmas which I can't wait last time I saw them it was about eight months ago.

The week before Christmas I started to search for a job. I didn't care what type of job just something that got me out of the house. Dad said I didn't have to work until Serena was at school but I wanted to do something. While I work I was going to study online for a business degree. I found a job that would be interesting, it's a reception job at the casino here in Townsville. It's a job that's during the day but I might have to work weekends or nights occasionally. So I applied for it and kept looking. All I have to do is to find a day care centre when school starts. Mum said that during holidays and after school she'll look after her which works out well.

It was after Christmas now and I received a interview for that reception job. So on Monday after New Years I got ready for it. I wore a black pencil skirt, with a white buttoned up shirt and black dressy peep toe high heels. I pulled my hair up into a high neat pony tail and natural make up. I headed to the casino in my car that dad bought me for Christmas, it is a silver Toyota Kluga and I love it. I parked the car and exited. I was so nervous so I squashed down it and headed in. I went straight to the reception desk and explained why I was here. The lady smiled and called the manager on the phone. I sat waiting for about five minutes. The manager came up to me after the receptionist talked to him and pointed to me.

"Good morning Miss Evans" he said holding his hand out. He was in his late 30s, he had brown hair and greying on the sides. His eyes were brown with gold flecks in them. He was handsome enough and wore a grey suit and a blue tie. He was tall and wasn't built with muscles but wasn't fat. I shook his hand after I stood up. "Shall we start" he said with a flirty smirk. I nodded but didn't flirt back. Ever since I've had Serena I haven't dated anyone and haven't flirted either. I get nervous now around guys which use to be easy for me. Things do change. I followed him to his office and sat in front of the desk. "Now how old are you Cordelia" he asked after he sat down.

"I'm twenty-two sir" I answered with a smile.

"Just call me James or Mr Anderson" he said with a smile. I nodded with a smile still. "Ok you haven't worked in a casino before have you" he asked eyeing me.

"No, I was living on a ranch in Texas with family for about two and half years. I use to do the books for the ranch which was a huge operation"

"So why were you in Texas?" he asked leaning back in his chair.

"Well I fell pregnant with this guy I was seeing but I found out he was married after about six weeks and he wouldn't leave me alone even after I told him it was over. So I had to leave the country" I answered looking at my fingers that were clamped in my lap.

"Why didn't he leave his wife for you?"

"Something to do with losing everything that he built with his business" I shrugged and hopefully he'll drop it.

"So where's the baby?" He asked.

"She's at home with my mum and dad" I answered looking at him with a huge smile. I love my baby girl she means everything to me.

"I see, so you'll place her into daycare while you work or with your parents?"

"Yes, that's what I was thinking" I said looking at him. My nerves were coming back now.

"When can you start?" He asked smiling.

"What, really wow I can start tomorrow if you want" I said smiling.

"Good you can start next week then" he said then stood. I followed suit and followed him out. We said goodbye and I left.

I got home and ran inside excited. "I've the job" I yelled through the house. Dad ran to the entry way with Serena in his arms.

"Really congratulations" he said giving me a hug and Serena did too. Mum came after we pulled away and she hugged me tight. We headed into the living room and we sat down while I told them how the interview went. Mum said she's organised a day care centre where one of her friends works and told her that school holidays she'll have her and stuff like that so I'm paying for each day she goes not a monthly rate. I asked mum if she placed Serena's last name as Bianchi or Evans. She said Bianchi hopefully he'll won't find out at all. I registered Serena as Bianchi in America and Australia.

The week went quickly and mum took me shopping for work clothes and I received nice buttoned up red shirts with the casinos logo on it. All I needed was more skirts and a new hand bag mum said. I think mum just likes shopping. When we got home we came in to find dad with paint all over his face, arms, legs and hands. His clothes also had paint on them. Serena was just placing stickers on his face when we walked in. Mum and I were laughing so hard that we were clutching our stomachs. Dad looked at us in horror but went back to playing, he's the best grandad ever.
