Crossing the line

Coach Doburoku's truck was massive, and branded with the Devil Bats logo on every side. The whole team, plus the Wild Gunmen, plus the bull, could fit in there.
"This is so cool!" Monta said as he and the boys looked ahead of the road in awe. "One long road that goes on forever!"
"The only thing to see outside of town is the horizon." Sena added.
"America's a big country!" Coach laughed from the driver seat.

"Well, you sure saved our bacon." Kid smiled. "With this guy in tow," he nodded towards the sleeping bull. "we'd never have been able to hitchhike."
"Oh no." Sena shook his head. "We owe you all for putting us up at your ranch."
"Only two more days until our super training!" Kurita smiled.
"Boy, someone sure didn't plan ahead, did he?" Mamori glanced at Hiruma, who was in his corner, laying back and chewing on gum and being unbothered.
"Naaaah." you said. "Knowing him, he's got some twisted secret plan in that head of his."
"Kekekeke." he snickered.

"By the way," Kid looked at you. "how long will you stay here?"
"Don't ask me, man." you shrugged.
"Probably until the end of our training camp." Mamori answered.
"Well, I don't believe we have room for y'all over in the dorms. But we can't have you ladies sleep on hay." he said, looking at you.
She chuckled.
"You're very nice, but we'll be fine."
"Yeah, I don't care." you shrugged again.
"You've clearly never slept on hay before..." Kid tilted his head.
"Have you?"
"No. Because I know it's a bad idea."
"...You're making the others do it though!"
He just laughed. Meanwhile, Hiruma glared at the two of you, silent...

The ranch was massive! Acres and acres of land!
To welcome the Devil Bats and celebrate the new bull, an outside BBQ party was set up for everyone that evening. It was fun! At some point, Cerberus chased after Sena and two of the haha brothers. It made you cackled.
Cerberus spotted you – well, he noticed what you had in your plate – and started to run up to you too. But then, discreetly, Hiruma whistled. The dog started going slower until he stopped and sat in front of you. That was when you finally noticed him.
"...You want some?" you handed him a piece of meat.
He politely picked it up with his mouth and ate it. You couldn't help but pat his head with a smile.
'What is wrong with Cerberus???' most of your teammates thought. '(Y/n) must be an exception, just like Hiruma. The two of them are demons after all.'

You all mingled with the wild Gunmen, you especially spent time with Kid and Tetsuma, since they were the only ones you knew, but they introduced you to Buharou Ushijima, or 'Buffalo' they call him. You recognized him as a lineman.
"Aaaah it's you!" you pointed at you.
'Oh god no.'
"You're that girl Kid talked about."
"Huh?" you looked at Kid.
"I uh..." Kid adjusted his hat, avoiding eye contact. "Don't worry, it was only good things." he smiled at you.
"Yeah it better be."
He chuckled.
"And yeah, of course, when you make a new friend, you mention it to your teammates." he stared at Boharou.
"...Oh!" his eyes widened. "Yes, a new friend!" he laughed.
While there seemed to be an unspoken conversation between them, you were busy thinking about what Kid just said.
"...That's cringe." you whispered to yourself.

Eventually, as the evening went on, the Devil Bats gathered in their own corner. Things became relatively quiet... So when Coach Doburoku shouted, you all heard it.
"What is wrong with you?! You idiot!"
You looked over and gasped when you saw him punching Hiruma in the face. Hiruma cackled and showed the now-broken pumpkin that he had used as a shield. You unknowingly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Where is Musashi?!" the coach glared. "The three of you made a promise to each-other. To go to the Christmas Bowl together!"
"Shut up!" Hiruma stood up and fired a rifle in the air, scaring him. "Musashi will come back." he smirked. "My plan's perfect."
The coach took his bottle of sake upside down, by the handle, and broke it to use as a weapon which he then pointed at him.
"Then go get him right now!"
"Right now?" he frowned. "We're not at that step yet."
And with that, he walked away. You watched him leave with a sad frown while the rest of the team was confused.
