When Aden got home that evening, she dropped her backpack by the front door, toeing off her shoes as the familiar scent of old books and Kai's terrible coffee drifted from the kitchen. The house was quiet except for the faint shuffle of papers...Kai must be burying himself in something again. She stepped into the living room just as he called out to her.

"Hey!" Kai called from the another room, "How was school?"

She followed his voice back to his office, finding him sitting at his desk, going through some papers in a folder.

"It was fine," She replied, "How was your first day at the hospital?"

He looked up from the folder, chuckling a little as he leaned back in the chair.

"Pretty boring, just orientation stuff." He replied, then gestured towards the notebook in his hand, "Got all this stuff to go over."

Aden nodded, seeing how thick the binder was. She knew Kai was excited about starting his new job, getting to be a doctor at the hospital in town.

"Anything interesting happen at school?" He asked her.

In that moment, Aden's mind immediately went back to her first class. The red-headed Wolfblood that came striding into class late. How she seemed to rush out of the room before Aden could even approach her. And then Aden didn't see her for the rest of the day.

"So...there's a girl in one of my classes," Aden told him, "I'm pretty sure she's a Wolfblood."

Kai sat up in his chair, immediately seeming to troubled by the news. Aden could imagine why. Wolfbloods could be territorial. Concern flickered across his face...protective, calculating, already running through worst-case scenarios.

"What?" Was all he replied.

Aden just nodded, "Yeah..."

He frowned, "Does she seem friendly?"

"I didn't really talk to her," Aden admitted, "So...not sure."

Kai exhaled through his nose, seemed a bit more weary, "Last thing we need is to get in a turf war with another pack."

"I mean, she didn't appear hostile...but also wasn't the friendliest either." Aden said, "She seemed like she was doing her best to avoid me."

Avoidance felt safer than attention. Aden would take distance over confrontation any day.

"You should try to talk to her tomorrow," Kai suggested, "Find out about her and her pack. Make sure they know us being here is no threat to them."

Aden nodded, "I'll see if I can talk to her tomorrow."
