Chapter one: Drama Doesn't Follow Me, It Rides On My Back

I sat there on the couch, staring at Jace, Jason, Logan, Spencer and James, as they played a cover of the song Fame > Demise by Woe is Me. When my parents were out of town I always stayed with Jace and Jason, so they drag me to everything; from their football practice, to their band practices. Not that I minded watching Peacefully Chaotic, it doesn’t hurt to have good looking band members. They were just playing along like they weren’t  all missing shirts, with the garage door wide open and a growing crowd of hormonal teenage girls and…wait…is that a dude?! I chuckle, shaking my head. Leave it to my best-friends to attract a street full of teenagers.

I was next to Jace’s latest flame…I already forgot her name. But whatever, his girlfriends never last longer than a month or so, sometimes shorter. Hell, I was his longest relationship so far and even we only lasted two months, before we decided to just stay friends.

I’m here admiring all of their perfectly sculpted abs, laughing every time Jace and Jason would flip their hair in unison and wink towards the couch. For only step brothers they are so alike, it probably stems from their years of friendship before their parents marriage. It’s sad that they practically hate each other now.

As I’m sitting there laughing and staring, blondie leans over and taps me on the shoulder. I slowly turn towards her not exactly eager to look away from the band. “Yes?”  I ask completely bored. She glares at me a moment before continuing, “How long exactly have you known Jace? And how are you guys even friends?” she questions sharply. Hoping that answering her will get her to shut up and leave me alone I say “ Jace and I have been friends for ten years. I met Jace when I was six and he was eight, at an after school daycare. He looked lonely and I was bored, so I grabbed Jason and we went over to talk. Surprise, surprise, Jason already knew him; their parents had dated.” She glares a little while longer before saying “Listen up little one,” I scoff little one? Seriously? She continues to glare so I wave her on. “I see the way you’re drooling over Jace, and let me just tell you now that you have no chance with him. SO STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM MY MAN!” she screams the last part, but you wouldn’t be able over the band, unless you’re sitting right next to her, like I am.

I sit there gaping for a while, when I finally find my voice, I scoff once again. “First off, what makes you think that I was looking at Jace? Hmm?” I ask gesturing to the four others in the band. “I’ll have you know I was not, nor will I ever go after ‘your’ man, ‘cause honey, let me tell you. If I wanted him, I would have him.” I smirk, knowing full well that she’s going to take this as an invitation to continue her rant. But seriously who in their right mind yells at someone they’ve just met and tells them to “Stay away from their man”?

I turn back around and try to enjoy the band’s performance, nodding my head along to the lyrics “your true colors are starting to get loud”. But blondie just keeps nagging me. Going on and on about loyal Jace is and how he’ll never fall for a little sophomore like me, then out of the blue she says something that just makes me snap.

“You know, you’re really nothing but a fat slut who likes to try and get older guys that you have no chance with.” She says matter-of-factly in an annoying tone that implies that she thinks she knows everything. Even though I’m not fat, and I’m definitely not a slut, what she says still stings a little, but it’s the fact that she even had the nerve to tell me that, that’s really making me angry.

My head snaps towards her and within seconds I’m right in her face.  “Listen here, Barbie Bitch, you better watch yourself. You see all those guys with the instruments over there? They all love me to no end, you piss me off, you piss them off. And your bitchy little social career will go down the drain faster than you can say fake. Say one more thing to piss me off my fist will be connecting with your face. Caprice?”

Sometime between me snapping and the end of my rant, the band had stopped playing. They were all just staring at her as if she were dead. With my temper she probably would have been, if not seriously injured, had it not been for Jace, who had pulled me back towards him before I could get a hit in.

Lifting me up in one quick motion, he threw me over his shoulder. “C’mon Cassidy, there is no need to get your panties in a bunch, I’ll drive you home.” He says as he pats my butt. That makes me angrier on top of being man handled. So I punch him in the shoulder blade. He yells out in pain, letting me go. I fall ungracefully down landing on my butt. Getting up, I stomp back towards BB, ready to smack that smug look off of her face.

Sensing my anger, Jason steps in front of me and turns me around. For interfering, I kick him in the shin and turn back towards Jace. Grabbing his hand, I lead him out followed by a chorus of goodbyes, and one very annoyingly high pitched voice calling out “Hey! Jacey-Poo! You’re my ride home! Where are you going?”

I fake gag and turn back towards Jace raising an eyebrow. “Jacey-Poo?” I ask before I burst out laughing. The whole time Jace just stands there, arms crossed, rolling his eyes.

“Are you done yet?” He asks annoyed. When I finally manage to control myself, I grab Jace’s keys from his back pocket and run to his truck. “Time for a Lesson Jacey!” I yell behind me as he sprints to catch up. Next thing I know, I’m running into a wall. “Ugh, stupid walls popping up out of nowhere.” I grumble to myself then smirk when I realize it’s not a wall but Jace’s very toned chest and stomach that I ran into.

Effectively blocking my path to the driver’s side he says “Nu-uh fishy. I just got the dent out from the last lesson.” He’s shaking his head, but I can see the smirk on his face.

“That last time wasn’t my fault Jace, and you know it! You grabbed the friggen wheel! Plus, I’m not a freshman anymore Jace.” I argue, even though I already know that I’ve lost. He chuckles and gets into his truck. I follow, slamming my door. I was really looking forward to driving.
