Hi! Sorry it took so long for Chapter 4—I get so side-tracked sometimes...Silly me, I guess! I do that a lot, hehe...Uh, anyway, to the chapter!
You stood there for a moment, staring at her.
"Yes, I'm talking to you." The woman stated. "You should really brush up on your manners, too. It's not polite to stare."
"Who are you?" You asked. "And what authority do you have over me to tell me about manners?""My, don't be so angry!" The woman insisted. "I've brought you here so we could have a little chat." You stared at her for a moment—then you took a step closer.
"Why am I here?" You questioned.
"Good question!" The woman pointed out. "I'm not surprised you asked. You're here so I can get to know you a little better."
"Why on earth would I tell you anything?""Because I can tell you the truth." The woman's words shocked you. The truth? Is she talking about your Chain?
"What do you know?" You demanded."Well, your Chain's name is Humpty Dumpty." She explained.
"Why couldn't I see the incuse on my chest?" You asked.
"Humpty Dumpty's job is to make everything seem better than what it really is." She replied. "So, since having a Chain would be anyone's nightmare, he hides the incuse from your sight. Everyone else can see it, though, so it makes it obvious. Also, you won't remember certain events correctly."
"Like what?" You asked."Well, I'm aware your parents died. On a Pandora mission, yes?" You slowly nodded. "Well, believe it or not, but that's not the truth. The reality of it is, you murdered your parents." Your entire body froze. How was that possible? You would never—why would you—it didn't make sense!
"I'm somehow doubting you." You said. "How could I ever kill my own parents? I loved them...""Well, long story short, your bad luck rubbed off on them." She replied. "You were helping your mother cook when you started a fire. It spread throughout your home quickly, but all of you escaped. Your parents, though, suffered from burns. They died three hours after the fire."
"What bad luck?" You asked. "I felt like the luckiest person in the world before Lottie and everyone came looking for me."
"Oh, that's right, Humpty Dumpty would shield you from that, too." The woman thought aloud, placing a finger on her chin.
"Shield me from what?" You demanded."(y/n), what color are your eyes?" The woman asked. Odd question.
"(e/c)." You replied. "Why is that important at all?"
"Well, what if I said that your eyes weren't (e/c)?" She inquired. You furrowed your eyebrows questioningly. If your eyes weren't (e/c), then what were they...? "You actually suffer from the same sin as I did." Your eyes widened.
"You don't mean—""Yes, (y/n). You have red eyes." That was a shock. Of course, it hasn't been the first shock since you arrived in this twisted dream, so it didn't come as a total shock.
"Alright. So, let me get this straight—I have a Chain named Humpty Dumpty, I killed my own parents, and I have red eyes?" The woman nodded.
"If you don't believe me, then wait until you wake up. That Lottie woman will tell you the same thing."
"But, how do you know about me? How do you know about my parents?""For now, let's just say that I've been sticking around with you for a while." The woman replied. "Any other questions? Hurry up, now, you don't have too much time left before you wake up." You swallowed and looked at the ground. Then, your gaze slowly drifted towards the woman's face.
"Who are you?" The woman smiled and strode towards you. Then she stood in front of you. She placed a hand on your shoulder as she smiled at you warmly.
"My name is Lacie." She replied. Then, everything faded to grey...You awoke to someone shaking you. It wasn't a hand, though—it felt like a boot.
"Hey, (y/n)! Wake up!" A familiar voice ordered. You shoved her leg away as you slowly sat up. Your back rested against the wall of the carriage. "Jeez, you're such a lazy bones, you know? I thought I'd have to start kicking you to get you to wake up!" You glanced at her, not turning your head.
"Lottie, I need you to confirm some information..." You said. She looked at you oddly."We'll talk once you're inside." She replied. You both walked out of the carriage, and you looked around at the rubble and remains of Sablier, A.K.A. Sabrie. Lottie led you into what remained of the Baskerville castle, and you saw Fang and Dug waiting for you. Then you walked inside with them surrounding you. So much for your escape plan. Standing in the middle of the first room stood a nearly familiar man. He was no Baskerville, but he certainly has helped them in the past. You wondered why he was here...Of course, there was one assumption in your mind, but you hoped that it wasn't right.
"So, this is the guy who's going to explain things to me?" You asked Lottie, looking at her. She nodded. She looked at the man.
"We brought her." Lottie said. "You can explain what you want and do whatever. We did our part of the deal."
"Thank you, Baskervilles," The man said, walking towards you. "I'll express my gratitude by aiding you further later on." You looked up at the man. Dressed formally as usual, top hat and all. Your first priority was to get your information from Lacie confirmed—then you would force your way out of the castle and hopefully return to the Rainsworth Mansion without bringing them along. You breathed deeply as you stared into the man's eyes.
"It's been a while, Xai." You pointed out."It's Xai-sama to you, brat." He stated rudely. "You better have an explanation for not returning for so long." Well, it's not hard to come up with an excuse—coming up with an acceptable excuse was different.
Well, that was Chapter 4! Interesting, if I do say so myself. I hope you enjoy, and look forward to Chapter 5! I can promise a Chapter 6, too, so don't think this book is nearly over yet! See ya next time!
