A/N: WHY ARE YOUR COMMENTS SO FUNNY, I READ THEM AND GO INTO HYSTERICAL FITS

Chapter Twenty-Nine: Mayhem and Tension

"It's as if the universe is conspiring against me," Luke groaned from behind me as he fanned himself with a copy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare.

Same, Luke, same.

To say I was happy that we had rekindled our friendship would be an understatement. I was thrilled.

Currently, I was in a cramped classroom where the heater (indubitably it was broken) was stuck on the highest setting causing everyone to sweat the equivalent of the Pacific Ocean. Furthermore, our lessons had been shifted around due to the whole English department being on a training course - this then resulted in collapsed classes which also was the reason behind Carl sitting opposite me. Carl.

He had a Batman comic book skilfully placed inside his writing book (I watched him sneak it in), which he looked to be utterly absorbed in. His eyes were following the colourful images and text from left to right, he seemed to reread everything as well as turn the pages so delicately you would think it was made of glass. His mousey coloured hair was in its similar choppy style - an artistic disarray as he called it in counselling when Paige asked him about it. The only difference today was that he was using a blue beanie to hold back the stands covering his face, this might have been the first time I had ever seen his forehead. He was so pale that he skin seemed almost translucent. His veins were prominent blue tinges underneath the layer of skin -

Alex, I swear if you ask him about Zach you can punch yourself in the face.

Guess who also was in my class today: Jimmy.

He was sitting two seats to the left of me, next to Luke, which obviously Luke wasn't happy about considering that every time he looked at him, his face would contort into a constipated expression. This helped me convince myself not to tell any of my friends about the events of last night (The McDonalds and Jimmy's car incident).

Mr Carlton, obviously bewildered, entered the classroom causing the room to gradually quieten down. He sat on the teacher's desk before eying each student.

"God, its hot in here," was the first thing he said. He pulled on his collar uncomfortably.

Sierra (aka: bitch) was sitting incredibly close to one of Jimmy's football player friends, to the extent where it almost looked like she was seated on his lap. At the same time, she was shamelessly checking out Mr Carlton. If I could burn her with my eyes, I think I would have. I think everybody would. Oh, how the world would erupt into chaos.

Her oil slick hair was scooped into a high ponytail to reveal her cheekbones. You could probably sharpen a knife on those things. The bruise on her eye (the legendary bruise where I had earned a lot of admiration for punching Queen Bitch) had begun to fade into a brown-purple colour. If she did ever acknowledge my existence, she would glare at me and then whisper to her friends - probably something nasty. It was worth it.

Mr Carlton racked his brain for a moment. "English, English, English... Where to start?" he muttered under his breath. "Any book recommendations?" he asked the class.

Carl and Luke both raised their hands. I heard Luke chant under his breath: "Batman. Batman. Batman."

"Samuels," Mr Carlton said pointing at Carl. Luke looked thoroughly disappointed.

Carl, not baring any emotion on his face, looked directly at me as he spoke. "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde."

Every part of me believed that bug-murderer Carl was trying to provoke me.
