Chapter Eight - Guy Talk

"It's the most wonderful time of the year," Luke sang loudly at the top of his lungs.

"Luke, please stop-"

But, for once, it wasn't Luke who interrupted me mid-sentence. It was, in actual fact, Parker. "Come on, Alex, Christmas is coming. Let the poor guy sing. He's in love."

The last sentence perked my interest. Of course, I always left parties before all the interesting things happened. "Luke is in love," I mused, even thinking it made me want to laugh.

The three of us were in Luke's living room. Parker and I were lying on the carpet, playing some video games - I was winning. While Luke was on his laptop, scrolling through his social networking feeds and singing along to Christmas songs. It was a lazy day. The type I really enjoyed.

"Her name's Jett," said Luke, grinning excitedly.

Much to Parker's dislike, I paused the game in the middle of an intense fighting scene and shuffled to sit next to Luke.

"She isn't like anyone I've ever met," he sighed, his childish manner disappearing. This was rare. Luke was acting serious.

He angled the laptop towards me. On the screen there was a picture of him and a girl from last night; I recognised Tara's house in the background.

She wasn't the type of girl tha Luke usually went for. She was pale and had a skinny build. From the photo, she looked like she was much shorter than me. A Polaroid camera hung around her neck, tied with a string. Her eyes were a piercing blue, ringed with thick black eyeliner.

Her hair, however, was the main focus. It was cut just under her chin, styled messily, the tips spiked up in all directions. The colours were stunning. An explosion of blues, navy to cyan, mixed with turquoises and greens.

It reminded me of peacock feathers.

"She's different and beautiful and unique," Luke said, staring at the photo with an affectionate intensity. The corner of my lips tugged up into a smile.

He really was in love.

The doorbell rang out, making me jump.

Both Luke and Parker looked up at me expectantly.

"I'll get it," I muttered.

Luke nodded and then continued tapping away at the keys on his laptop. I sent them both a dirty look before walking up to the front door. I wasn't thinking of anything in particular while I was turning the lock.

I swung the door open and found myself face-to-face with a certain, grey-eyed person.

"Zach," I breathed. I stepped away as fast as physically possible, concealing the blush that had already decided to appear.

He seemed just as confused as I was. What was he doing here?

"Are you following me around or something?" he asked, smirking down at me.

Today, he was wearing a similar outfit to what he was wearing last night; dark wash skinny jeans and a leather jacket. His messy hair was the same, this time with the addition of his glasses and a grey beanie.

Oh my life, he was wearing a beanie. I always liked guys who wore beanies-

Alex, what are you actually doing with your life? Please, do everyone a favour, and control your brain.

"You'd wish," I retorted as he entered the house. I mentally kicked myself.

Zach followed me into the living room.
