Chapter Nineteen - Confrontation Troubles
I drummed my fingers on my knee impatiently. I was waiting for the receptionist to allow me into the office. Even though it felt like I was awaiting a death sentence, I just wanted to get it over and done with.
The pain in my shoulder had receded slightly. This meant I could actually move my arm without it flaring up with pain.
If you were wondering why I was sitting in front of my head teacher's office, injured, with Zach and a beaten up football captain on either side, I'll explain in only three words.
Sierra Walker happened.
~
"You've got a new boy, Alex?" she had questioned as soon as she reached our table at lunch. I guess she didn't like the standard way of greeting a person.
The football players behind her were folding their arms over their muscular chests. Both of them were staring down Parker and Zach with an almost violent intensity.
Sierra eyed Zach's arm around my shoulder. "The Greek God dumped you then? I guess he finally discovered the real you."
"I did not du-" Zach stopped himself mid-sentence. It was becoming more difficult to keep his other life a secret.
Sierra narrowed her eyebrows, a smirk forming on her lips. "I'm sorry, honey, but I wasn't talking about you. You don't look like a Greek God to me."
People had started to group around our table, crowding around us as if this was the only entertainment there was. They all loved confrontation.
This scenario seemed too similar. Tara was stood completely still, her body was tense as she diverted her attention to anywhere but Sierra.
"He must have realised that you were a nobody. He's probably trying to find me right now," she proposed as she hitched her already short skirt higher up her thighs. Was it physically possible for a person to be so obnoxious, conceited and self-absorbed? I bit back a snarky comment and decided that silence was the best way to deal with a girl whose main goal in life was to be popular.
"I highly doubt that," Zach retorted.
She inspected the rolled up sleeve of her jacket. "I wasn't speaking to you. Don't you have some homework to do?" she questioned dismissively.
Zach scowled at her behind his lenses.
She almost did a double take when she realised that Tara and Parker were present. "Tara, it's been a while. How's the relationship going?" she carried on, it was obvious that she didn't actually care. Her voice was injected with a fake, sickly sweetness that no one was buying.
Instinctively, Parker took a hold of Tara's hand, making it clear that they were still dating.
"It's going great," Tara answered back bitterly.
The atmosphere now had a cold edge to it as we all remained silent, glowering at each other.
I sensed that something bad was going to happen. "Just leave, Sierra," I deadpanned.
Ignoring me, she walked straight up to Parker and Tara and ripped their hands apart. If you thought that was going too far, well, my friends, she didn't stop there. Not at all.
She shoved Parker's face to hers and started kissing him passionately. Gasps sounded through the crowd that had gathered. Nobody expected much of Sierra. But no one expected her to do that.
