Chapter 2: I had no choice

A few days passed since Edward Cullen went to school, meanwhile the other five attended as usual. Edward couldn't stand the new girl, Bella Swan. Her scent was so sweet-smelling, so attractive, that in all his years of being a vampire, he never felt so tempted to drink the blood of a human.

And Kiara's connection towards Bella just grew stronger with each day, especially now that Mr. Molina had changed Kiara to be Bella's partner in biology. Which made the Nymph very happy because she gets to spend more time with her Protected and get to know her better.

Kiara Cullen felt the human's eyes on her as she scribbled down the last notes about zombie worms and then she heard a quiet voice "Where's Edward been?"

Kiara's pencil halted for a moment before she continued writing the last part of her paragraph, "He's just out of town for personal reasons." She made sure to add emphasis on the word personal as she softly smiled at her friend.

"Are you lying?" Bella squinted her eyes at her new friend and Kiara looked towards her with her eye brow lifted "because I know I made him upset somehow."

Kiara laughed softly at her Protected and shook her head, before she continued writing "Bells I'm not lying. Edward is like that. He's constantly moody, one moment he will be happy and smiling and the next he will be glaring at you like you kill his puppy." She smiled softly at her as she try to sell her lie. "He is off to Alaska to see our cousins." In that moment the bell rang and Kiara collected her things back in her bag and she slung her bag over her shoulder "I'll see you later, okay?"

Kiara gave her new friend and her Protected a smile, before she left the room and walked towards her family.

Thing's with the Cullen siblings have been tense ever since Edward had finally come back home and told them the truth about why he actually ran away to snowy Alaska. Since he admitted to the human being his blood-singer most of the siblings chose to ignore him mainly Rosalie, the blonde vampire knew that the human was nothing but trouble.

While Kiara had grew more nervous and scared for her Protected, knowing that no matter what Bella will found out their secret and that will put the human in danger with the Vulturi. And Kiara knew that she had to do everything in her powers to protect her.

Kiara had walked into biology classroom, seeing her uncle was already on his seat waiting for Bella to arrive. She gave her uncle a small smile, which he returned before she moved past him and towards her seat that was next to Angela.

"Oh Kara, are we lab partners again?" Angela was shocked to see the girl in her old seat again.

"We always did make a great team." Kiara replied with a polite smile. The Cullen girl liked Angela she never asked questions about her or her family and they truly were a great pair for lab partners.

"Onion root tip cells that's what's on your slides, separate and label them into the phases of mitosis." Mr. Molina started as the two girls clicked the tops of their pens ready to get to work, "the first partners to get it right, win the golden onion." the teacher excitedly held up a spray-painted onion making Kiara and Angela share an unamused look both of them giggling after.

She would never admit it out-loud but Kiara had missed her lab partner "Come on people tick-tock."

The Cullen girl softly sighed pushing the worksheet slightly to the side before sliding the microscope toward Angela who gave her a polite smile as she snapped in the first slide adjusting the lens, "It's prophase."

Kiara felt pretty smug when she caught part of Bella's sentence when Edward told her why he had been gone "That's what Kara said-"

"Anaphase." Kiara spoke before pushing the microscope back towards the girl as they both wrote down their answers on the worksheet falling into a weird silence.

Kiara could hear bits and pieces from Edward and Bella's conversation, she knew that the human girl was going to be curious about a lot of things when it comes to Edward and his weird behavior. Kiara knew that her lie didn't worked very well with her Protected, she kinda knew that Bella could see right through her lies and to be truthful Kiara really wanted to tell her the truth about everything, but she was afraid for her Protected.

The Nymph didn't know what to do, at one point she wanted to tell Bella the truth, but on the other she was afraid for her Protected.

Kiara and Angela, unfortunately, didn't win the precious golden onion and they were crushed (note the sarcasm) honestly neither of them really cared as they walked into the hallway going their separate ways.

Kiara jumped when her mother appeared when she closed her locker door and then she jumped again when her back hit against her father's chest "Jesus are you two trying to give me a heart attack?" she placed her hand over her heart with a teasing smile.

Jasper and Alice, both laughed softly at their daughter. As he put his arm on top of Kiara's shoulder and start walking towards the exit, with Alice skipping happily next to her husband and daughter.

The rain had stopped but the parking lot was full of water and patches of black ice. The Cullen siblings stood beside their car listening to Alice babble on about something that had happened in her home EC class.

"I swear Ms. Marsh almost-"

Alice's voice suddenly sounded nothing more than a noice for Kiara, she felt it before she heard it, hairs standing on the back of her neck, the connection lurched, hard whipping her head towards the direction it came from, her eyes rested on an oblivious Bella Swan and a van that was going way too fast for a school parking lot.

Without even thinking, the Nymph dropped her bag and began sprinting towards her friend. She was halfway there when the sound of screeching tires made its way around the parking lot.

"Bella!!" Kiara screamed out "Bella, MOVE!" She was almost there. Bella heard her friend scream, not making out what she said, she removed her earbuds and sent the girl a questioning look. "Bella, fucking MOVE!"

Finally Bella got the hint and turned to look behind her, only to be met with the sight of a dark blue van heading right towards her. She couldn't move, she was frozen in her spot. The only thing she could do was close her eyes and wait for what was to come.

Kiara was four steps away, 3... 2... and her body slammed into Bella's, eliciting a surprised gasp from the girl. Both colliding into the cement, Kiara rolled under Bella, taking most of the damage before hastily switching spots and shielding her from the oncoming van. It wasn't until she heard the loud thump and felt another presence, did she look up, meeting the eyes of her uncle Edward.

Edward watched Bella's eye the hand that had stopped the van before running his eyes over them and checking for injuries. Seeing none, he grabbed his niece's hand and they both stood up, before hopping over Bella's truck and heading back towards their family, that were not happy.

Kiara knew that her and Edward were in big trouble with their family in that moment, but it was an instinct for her. Bella was her Protected, it came as an instinct of her to run towards Bella and to save her.

She had no choice, and to be fair she does not regret saving her new friend.
