Chapter 18

"Lucy I know what your thinking, but its probably just a coincidence. Things happen and people get hurt, that doesn't necessarily mean it always has to involve you." He tries to make me change my mind about the situation, but I've already made up my mind. What I had just endured wasn't some really vivid nightmare, it truly was a vision and now what I saw was coming true. People were dying and I was the only one that could save them. I push Stiles away from me and immediately feel the burns on my arms sting from the impact. But I don't slow down as I run through Stiles house towards the front door, trying to get out before someone stops me. Unfortunately I don't quite make it as Derek steps out in front of me and I'm almost sent skidding across the floor to a halt. "Where do you think your going?" Derek says as his eyes lock on my charred flesh. "There's a fire and people are going to die if I don't help!" I yell and he steps forward cautiously. "Are you sure you weren't already in the fire?" He asks with a confused look. "Derek I don't have time to explain but someone set a fire and people are going to die unless I try to help. If we don't do something the same thing that happened to your family, is going to happen again." I try to move back towards the door but Derek stands his ground. "Lucy this doesn't involve you. Those people's blood won't be on your hands if they die." He puts his hand on my shoulder for comfort but I shrug him off. "I know it involves me. I think I had a vision. I watched those people die before it ever happened and I don't want them to go through that again." I say and Derek's eyes widen as I mention the vision. "Please?" I beg and he nods. "Fine I'll get Stiles, you go get in my car and stay there until I come back." He warns before turning to run down the hall.

The flames become visible as we get closer to the flashing lights and clouds of smoke drift towards the Camaro making it difficult to see. I'm jumping out of the car before it even comes to a full stop and Im surprised to see people just sitting around. There are fire fighters trying to put out the fire but no ones even making a effort to go help the people trapped inside. As I get closer to the commotion one of the responders breaks away from the workers to come speak to me. "Miss, you need to stay back! We have everything under control." The man reassures me but I ignore him as I run towards the burning building. Shouts of warning come from bystanders as they watch me walk right into the house full of smoldering flames. But none of them are stupid enough to go after me. When I enter the lack of air hits me like a hard punch and as I move farther into the place my sight and smell is overcome by smoke. For once I was just as vulnerable as any other human being, and just as likely to die. I try to push that thought away, as I climb the stairs in hopes of finding the survivors before its to late. I dodge though the flames an into the blackened room. There laying on the ground is three bodies, unresponsive but as I get a closer look, I feel relieved to see their chest rising and falling. My hope for them quickly dwindles when I finally realize the identity of the people I was trying to rescue. It had been over a week since I had last in countered Britney and the rest of her lackeys, but the palm of my hand still ached in pain at the memory. Part of me should have just left them there to burn to death. Unfortunately looking down at Britney, I didn't see a hunter or a killer. I saw a innocent young girl, my age that didn't deserve to die and I couldn't leave her, I just couldn't. Surprisingly she's not as far gone as the other to guys and after a few shakes she comes back to life. Her eyes widen in fear as she realizes who woke her but then her gaze flickers to the flames scorching behind me and she starts to panic. She backs away only stops when she bangs into a crumbling wall. "Britney listen to me, if you want to make it out of here alive, you need to trust me." I beg and she whimpers, torn between what she should do and what's right. Britney tries to get up but it's clear she's somehow injured her leg as she stumbles back onto the ground. I reach for her arm and sling her body over my shoulder. "Get away from me!" She says trying to swat me away. "Britney I know you want to kill me but you won't be able to do that if your dead. So let me help you before you waste your life away." I say pleadingly and she probably would have protested some more if her mind wasn't clouded by the fumes of the fire. I hurry her to the landing and meet Derek halfway down the creaking stairs. "Take her. I'll go back for the other two." I hand her over and run back down into the unbearable heat.

I manage to get both of the other hunters out of the building with ease before the flames fully incase the rooms, but not before I see the same flash of green I had witnessed in my vision. I don't want to think about what it means so I focus on the issue at hand. I don't stick around the scene, afraid people might start asking questions about how a seventeen year old girl was able to pull three people out of a fire filled house without even breaking a sweat. So Stiles drives me home from his house without speaking one word the whole ride, because there really wasn't a whole lot he could say to comfort me. In a matter of hours Marissa had died, Hunter was missing and I had saved the very people that had put me on my death bed. "Are you ok?" Stiles asks when we reach my house and he realizes I'm not getting out of the car. I know I need to face my mom eventually but that wasn't the reason I didn't want to get out of the jeep. "Did you know those people?" He finally asks seeing that I'm deep in thought. "Their hunters, the very ones that tried to kill me." I admit. "Why didn't you leave them to die then?" Stiles says in astonishment. "No one deserves to die that way." I look him square in the eye. "Your truly amazing you know that right? Only you would put that kind of hatred aside to save someone who would never think to do the same." He pulls me in for a hug and it takes me off guard. He gives me a friendly pat on the back before pulling away. "You know you could stay at my place tonight, Derek and I managed to get most of the blood off the walls." He says with a small smile. "No that's ok, it's time I go see my mom." He gives me a reassuring nod as I step out into the night. I watch until his jeep turns off onto the next street before walking up to the house. I knock and wait for a answer and as the door swings open I hear a gasp. Standing before me is my mother, only she looks different, older somehow. Quickly after we make eye contact I'm met with her embrace as she pulls me inside. "I missed you mom." I mumble into her shoulder as she continues to hold me. "Oh honey I missed you too."
