***Raven's POV***
"I expect you to do well at this school. Understood? Do not let your magic get in the way of your academic studies. You can still be a witch while being a successful person," my dad explains over the dinner table.
It's the night before I go to boarding school. Westfield High is the most acclaimed school for supernatural beings since Hogwarts. My dad, however, is only interested in my studies and making me the perfect child. Dad's the stereotypical Asian father. "Yes, Dad. I understand," I reply in a bored tone, playing with my food.
"Raven! Raven! I want to come with you!" my little brother yells from his place on the side of the table.
"Aw, sorry. I'd love you to come with me, but you can't. You have to stay here to look after Rabbit." I reply. By 'Rabbit', I'm referring to his cat.
Yes. I know.
My heart sinks when he pulls the puppy dog eyes out.
"I think it's best you go to your room to make sure everything is in order before you leave tomorrow morning. You would not want to leave anything behind, would you?" says my father.
I leave the table, taking my half-eaten dinner to the kitchen. Once I throw out whatever we had for dinner (I don't even remember), I walk to my room to make sure my suitcase is packed.
I check to make sure all my clothes are folded neatly and not crinkled, my school books are all labeled, my linen towels are in check, my toiletries are in their bag, and my teddy bear Neville, is in my backpack.
"Good. Everything is done."
I sigh and lay down on my bed. It will be great to have my dad off my back.
But I'll miss my brother. Ever since my mom died six years ago, I've been like his mother.
My mother died when I was 10. My brother was just born when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It came too quickly and there wasn't anything the doctors could do. She passed away when my brother was three months old, so he never knew her. My father has never been the same since then. It's hard to believe, but there actually was a time when he was fun and played games. Now he's a boring, strict, surgeon.
I talk to Mom though. My powers as a witch allow me to communicate with the dead. Some may call me a medium, others an indigo child. But to me, it's just a blessing. Mom was a witch too. She was one the only witch in over a century to perfect every witch power there was. Mom was high up in the Circle of Witchcraft as well. And for this, many dark witches hated her.
Mom and I chat about school, boys I like, and how my younger brother is growing up. I love to think that where ever I am, and how much I think that everyone on Earth hates me, that there is a person who's not on Earth, that cares about me, and will talk no matter what.
10 minutes later, I'm fast asleep on my bed.

Beep! Beep!
I groan loudly, not wanting to wake up from the dream that I was just having. Then I realize it's 9:50am and I'm in my clothes from yesterday. That must have been my driver who is supposed to take me to the airport; to board a plane from Melbourne to Canada.
In 10 minutes!!!
I take a shower, get dressed, style my hair and take my bags to the car in a record time of nine minutes.
"I love you, Raven. Remember to call me whenever you can. I'll miss you, big sister!" my brother sobs.
"I love you too, little bro!"
We have a hug and tear fest.
"Goodbye, Raven. Make sure to get at least A's on everything," my dad says while giving me a stern hug.
"Will do, Dad. I love you."
"I love you too, sweetheart."
I think that's the nicest thing he has ever said!
I hop in the car and roll down the window.
"Bye, guys!" I say for the last time, waving to them from the window. And then the driver pulls out of the driveway, and heads down out shady little street to the waves of my family.

So this was a short chapter, because I wrote it late at night with only 7%
Battery left on my computer. Being the lazy bum I am, I can't be stuffed to go
down stairs and get my charger. Anyway, I hope you like it!
~Amethyst xx (I decided to go full name instead of Amey for a change!)
P.S This chapter was edited/ slightly changed by Raven herself! (Actually TwinStarKiki but you know what I mean :)
