He woke up in the middle of the night, is it him or did he just hear wood being scratched? He didn't mind it and went back to sleeping.
His name is Rock Dean, a black haired eight year old boy who doesn't go with the rules. Suddenly, he heard the wood scratching again. He woke up and yelled, "Who is that?! May, are you playing tricks on me?!"
On the other side of the room, May June, a shy brown haired seven year old girl, who'll turn eight soon, who is the exact opposite of Rock was fast asleep. She heard the commotion and asked, "What is it?!"
"You didn't do it?" Rock asked.
"Do what?" May asked, dazed and confused.
"That wood scratching..."
"You're just hearing things, you know, just because we're childhood friends and roommates don't mean that you should always blame me for your wild imagination."
Suddenly, a loud wood creaking noise was heard coming from under May's bed. "Ha ha, very funny," May said, sarcastically.
"I'm right here..." Rock yelled, lying down on his bed.
"Wait, if you're there, and I'm here, then who's under the bed?!"
Their eyes widened as they realized that something isn't natural. "Y-you don't think...?"
"...Y-yup. MONSTERS!!!"
May ran quickly up to Rock's bed and hugged him for comfort. Suddenly, they saw green eyes glooming from under the bed.
"R-Rock..."
"Y-Yeah..."
"I'm scared..."
"We both are... We both are..."
Suddenly, the eyes disappeared and the pair was left trembling with fear. "I-Is it over...?" May asked.
"I-I think so..."
They soon realized that they are hugging each other and quickly let go of each other. "We don't talk about this to anyone, understood?!" Rock yelled.
"Y-yes..."
"Hey, May..."
"Y-Yeah..."
"Let's make a promise to each other..."
"What is it?"
"Never leave each other no matter what happens."
"Y-Yeah...," May said, slowly forming a smile.
"Pinky swear?" Rock asked, letting his pinky out.
"Pinky swear," May said as their pinkies formed a small knot.
Suddenly, a dark red dragon-like monster with millipede legs and red bat wings surprised the duo. The duo screamed until their voices ran out.
Eight years has passed, Rock is now sixteen while May is fifteen. The duo was inseparable since that day. They shared their experiences for each day and all their secrets.
Rock is now a sorta gangster/bad boy who still doesn't have a girlfriend due to some reason. And May is still as shy as she will ever be.
However, May has something that she doesn't want Rock to know: she has a karate black belt. She felt ashamed of it due to some reason and decided not to tell Rock all about it.
It only took one day for their lives to change as they met a terrible fate. They walked down the streets of Luxo Town nearing their house. May, however, was nervous due to an announcement she will make to Rock. "R-Rock..." she said, trembling and shaking.
"W-What?" Rock asked, calm and confused about the trembling.
"T-There's s-something I w-want to t-tell you..."
"What is it?"
"D-Don't get m-m-mad, o-okay?"
"Sure, just tell me what it is."
"W-We're m-moving a-away."
What?! was all Rock could think of.
"What do you mean?!" he asked, his voice rising.
"Dad found a good place where we could live, we'll be leaving tomorrow."
"W-Why..."
"I-I'm s-sorry," May cried, tears flowing from her eye, "We won't be a *hic* nuisance to you anymore."
"You never were a nuisance!" Rock retorted.
"I-I'm sorry..." She quickly ran back to the house with tears still flowing from her eyes.
"M-May..."
He slowly walked back to the house, mulling over what just transpired. "May's... leaving. I can't believe it. She broke the promise...
"SHE BROKE THE PROMISE!!!"
He quickly ran back to the house, angrier than ever. He opened the front door angrily, causing it to make a deafening bang noise when it hit a wall.
He marched up the stairs making noisy stomps that rises as he goes higher.
"MAY!!!" he shouted, entering his room.
May sat there at her bed, packing her things. "R-Rock..."
"YOU BROKE OUR PROMISE!!!"
"P-Please, I-I can e-explain."
"W-WHY WOULD YOU?!"
"B-But you're my f-friend!"
"A PROMISE BREAKER IS NOTHING MORE THAN A MERE TRAITOR."
"If that's what you want, then, fine... We're not friends anymore..."
"FINE!"
He walked out of the room into downstairs and decided to walk to lose some frustration out of his head.
May got out of the house as well and they walked in opposite directions. Little did they know that they are just walking in a big circle.
They ended up passing each other but did nothing but glare as if they were enemies for life.
Suddenly, they could feel a hand hold both their elbows. "Let go, May!" Rock yelled.
"No, you let go," May yelled.
They turned around and saw a blond man with glasses, blue shirt and pants hold both of them. "A113!" he yelled.
Suddenly, they could feel as if their feet had left the ground into a swirling portal from nowhere.
