5 MONTHS LATER
It was the middle of the night, pitch black and Taylor was laying on her left side in bed with the coverlet thrown haphazardly off of her, she was hot and couldn't sleep. Adam was out cold in the bed beside her, snoring lightly. Taylor winced as she felt another contraction and slowly began to count as she tried to keep her focus on the glowing red numbers of her alarm clock. This had been going on for about an hour and she had only had four contractions counting the one she was currently having. They weren't hurting enough for her to call the doctor and they certainly weren't close enough together. Taylor thought that they just felt like intense menstrual cramps that moved in a wave across her stomach and radiated to her back. As of right now they were very manageable and she knew she was in the early stages of labor. She wasn't sure if she should wake up Adam yet, she wanted him to get all of the sleep he could before they did have to go to the hospital. She was fairly confident that she would have a long labor, her mother had been in labor for over twenty four hours with her. Honestly, it was probably karma she thought to herself and sighed. All of a sudden another contraction hit her, it hadn't even been fifteen minutes yet. She let out a small moan, she hadn't been expecting this one. Her hands moved to her stomach as she tried to calm her breathing. Beneath her hands she could feel the tension of the contraction spreading throughout her belly. She finally succeeded in calming her breathing and slowly began to count in her head. After about forty five seconds the pain began to subside. She readjusted herself and sat up against the headboard, a pillow underneath her back. She crossed her legs and comfortably rested her hands on her belly. Now she really was debating on whether or not to wake Adam.
Taylor let out a gasp, effectively waking Adam. She felt a sudden gush and realized that her water had just broken. Before she could even process this new development another contraction hit her, this one more painful than the last this time, all she could do was focus on her breathing.
Adam quickly woke up and looked at Taylor leaning against the headboard, hands on her belly, breathing. Instantly it hit him, she was in labor. He quickly jumped out of bed and ran around to sit next to Taylor. He just studied her face as she breathed through what he assumed was a contraction. He knew she wasn't going to be a wimp about this, she had a high pain tolerance and had talked about wanting to not get an epidural, which Adam thought was crazy but he wasn't going to argue with her. Her breathing eventually returned to normal and her eyes slowly opened, they had been closed tight during the contraction as she had tried to focus on getting through it. Taylor opened her eyes to find Adam perched on the bed beside her, intently staring at her face. He reached for her hand as soon as he realized that the contraction was through. "You okay love?" He asked, very concerned about her. Even though he had known this was coming he still didn't want to see her in pain."Yeah" whispered Taylor, "its definitely time to go to the hospital, that was my sixth contraction in almost and hour and fifteen, no maybe ten, minutes." "Taylor, why didn't you wake me?" asked Adam, visibly upset that she hadn't. "I didn't want to wake you unless I needed you and they were mild, until my water broke any way." she said, trailing off at the end as his eyes grew wide. " Wait, what! Your water broke? When?" Asked Adam in rapid succession. "Yes, Yes, and right when you woke up." replied Taylor surprisingly calmly despite the current situation. "Adam," she warned as she saw him start to panic, "take a deep breath and grab my bag, then help my to the car, okay? I really need you to calm down, okay babe?" she asked, worried that he might pass out. He shook his head as he stood up, trying to figure out exactly what he was going to do next. "Alright, I am going to grab your bag and put it in the car then I'll come back up and take you down to the car, all right love?" Asked Adam. Taylor just nodded at him, her eyes trained on the clock so that she should fill the doctor in once they got to the hospital.
Adam quickly grabbed Taylor's bag, which had been sitting by the bedroom door for almost two weeks now, she had definitely been prepared for this. He hurried down the stairs, taking two at a time, and flung open the front door as he placed the bag in the trunk of his car. He took a moment to take a deep breathe and try to relax. He didn't want Taylor to see him get stressed again like she just had. He was ready for this, he was prepared, and he wanted to be her rock, not something else she had to worry about. He flew back into the house and up the stairs only to find Taylor standing up and putting on another pair of sweatpants and calmly brushing her teeth in the bathroom. "Taylor what are you doing!" he exclaimed, rushing over to her. "What, I'm just brushing my teeth and changing real quick, then we can go." replied Taylor, not sure why he was freaking out. "But, but, your in labor, you need to lay down or" Adam began but Taylor interjected "Adam, I'm having contractions the baby isn't coming right now, I just needed to change and" Suddenly she doubled over, another contraction hitting her. she moaned as she placed her hands on the countertop of the bathroom and took deep breaths. Adam rushed over to her and began to rub her shoulders. "Breathe babe, its okay, just breathe, I knew this wasn't a good idea" he mumbled. Taylor responded by shooting him a death glare in the middle of her contraction which immediately silenced him as he continued to rub her shoulders.
