Marching

I stood there at attention in the dark. The band director was really mad and here we were at 9 o'clock at night marching around the school parking lot. Every now and then a car would pull around the corner, temporary blinding us with the head lights. The parents would pull into the parking lot annoyed that practice was running over again. We all marched like robots nothing going through our mind except left, right, left, right, left. The director yelled halt as we neared the end of the song. We could faintly see someone walking down the hill of a parking lot while the band director lectured us about how we should act. We fell back into black and stood at attention again as the person walking down the hill neared us. "Savanna Parker," he said as he got close and my stomach dropped. The one person I didn't want to see. Thankfully, I didn't have to talk with him because god knows what would have happened if I broke attention. I tried to blend in with every one else but I knew I had obviously failed when he spoke again, "Savanna, I see you." He started to walk towards me but the director stepped in between me and him, to my luck.
"She can't talk right now, might I suggest doing this on your own time, not mine." Mr. Knerr said before ordering us to march again. We marched up the hill again and then Mr. Knerr released us. I tried to catch up with my friends but he asked me to stay behind. After everyone walked away he looked at me.
"Is everything okay between you and that guy, I saw you tense up when he talked," he asked me.
"Yeah everything is fine," I lied.
"Okay but if you ever need to talk, you know I'm here for you."
"Yes, I know." I said walking off to the band room to put my clarinet up. I walked in the door and got weird stares from everyone but I brushed them off. I walked into the instrument storage room and gently put my clarinet in its case before walking out with my case in hand. When I walked out I saw the majority of everyone had left and the band room was a mess. I decided to help Mr. Knerr and clean it up since I didn't have anywhere to go. While we were cleaning the remainder of the people in the room left. I looked out the band room window and saw my ex standing by my car.
"Cody?" I said using Mr. Knerr's first name.
"Yes Savanna?" he answered hopeful that I would talk about earlier.
"If someone was hurting you and blamed everything on you what would you do?" I asked him.
"Savanna? Is this happening to you?" he asked as he stopped cleaning and looked at me. I couldn't answer him just look at the ground.
"Savanna?" he asked again.
"I have to go." I said grabbing my bag and case before walking out of the door.
He stopped me before I walked out of the door and said, "Remember, you have my number and if it happens again give me a call."
I gave him a small smile and walked out to my car unsure of what I would do next.
