“That’s what I’m saying,” she remarked dryly.
Abhimaan and Ahana turned sharply. Ahana froze, while Abhimaan quickly shut his eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Armaan and Arya, standing behind their mom, were already struggling to hold in their laughter.
Ahana cleared her throat nervously, greeting, “Namaste, aunty…” She quickly took the bag from her hands and placed it on the table. Then she glanced at Abhimaan, confused.
“Are you sleeping? Your mom’s here… Wake up!” She patted his shoulder lightly. “Abhimaan, are you sleeping? Wake up!”
Armaan and Arya burst out laughing.
Just then, Shravani, Divya, and Reyansh entered.
“Namaste, aunty,” they greeted warmly.
Abhimaan suddenly sat up. “Hey, guys!”
Shravani raised a brow. “Why does he seem so happy to see us?”
“Because I am!” Abhimaan grinned. “I’m so happy to see my friends.”
Shravani rolled her eyes 🙄 while Abhimaan suddenly acted as though he had only just noticed his mother.
“Oh, I didn’t see you there, Mom… Oh, it hurts…” He clutched his stomach dramatically.
Divya frowned at Ahana. “While fighting, did he get hit on the head too?”
Arya chuckled. “Bhai always acts like this whenever he’s injured. Because Mom makes him drink all sorts of kadhas and bitter stuff, so he pretends to be perfectly fine. And… one more thing, after he recovers, Mom lectures him for hours—”
Arya stopped instantly when her mother glared at her. She quickly corrected, “I mean… scolds him a little. Maybe even twists his ear.”
“Aruuu…” Abhimaan stretched his arms. “I missed you so much, come here.”
Arya smiled and stepped closer, but instead of hugging her, Abhimaan grabbed her braid and tugged.
“Who told you to expose me?”
“Mom, look at your idiot son!” Arya pouted..
“Maan,” his mother scolded lightly. “Let go of your sister’s hair.”
After a while of talking and teasing, everyone went home except for Ahana. Arya had insisted that she wanted to see their practice session, so the others agreed and took her along.
Ahana stood at the door watching them go, a small smile playing on her lips.
“Goodbye…” she whispered softly.
She returned inside where Abhimaan’s mom was sitting on the couch, cutting fruits for her son.
Just then Ahana’s phone buzzed with a message. She opened it and her heart skipped.
It was from her mother: “I’ll be gone for a few days.”
Frowning, Ahana immediately called, but the call went unanswered. On the other side, her mother was in Kerala, walking along the beach, her phone set on vibration and completely unaware.
Minutes passed. Ahana bit her lip anxiously.
“Where is she… I called her five times.”
Abhimaan looked up from the bed.
“Maybe she went on a solo trip. She did go through something big…”
“Did she actually go to Goa alone or somewhere else? Why isn’t she picking up? Gosh, she worries me so much…” Ahana muttered.
“I’m sure she’ll call once she sees the missed calls,” Abhimaan reassured, his voice calm. “Don’t worry so much.”
Ahana only nodded, though her heart was still restless.
Breaking the silence, Abhimaan’s mom asked gently, “How’s your mother doing now? What did the doctor say about her surgery?”
Ahana exhaled. “Doctor said Mom’s surgery will be after a month.”

Later that evening, Ahana and Abhimaan’s mom were in the lift heading home. Avinash had decided to stay with Abhimaan for the night.
“Isn’t it hard, coming here every day?” his mom asked, watching Ahana’s tired eyes.
“It’s nothing,” Ahana replied quickly. “Abhimaan’s the one having a hard time.”
His mom smiled faintly, her expression soft.
“I’m grateful to you.”
Ahana blinked. “What?”
“Before Maan woke up, before the surgery… you came here every day to hold his hand, to look after him. When I saw that, I thought—‘she really cares for my Maan.’ I was so happy to see that. He grew up lonely sometimes, even though he had me, his brother, and sister. But seeing someone like you beside him…” She reached out, holding Ahana’s hand warmly. “Thank you.”
Tears welled in Ahana’s eyes. She shook her head, whispering, “Thank you.”
His mom chuckled softly, “Gosh, my dear…”

A few days later
Armaan was keeping Abhimaan company at the hospital. He sat awkwardly on the chair beside his bed, both of them staring everywhere but at each other.
Finally, Armaan cleared his throat.
“Get better soon.”
Abhimaan hesitated, then said, “Thanks… for caring about me.”
Their eyes met briefly before they both looked away again, the awkwardness almost comical.
“One day Ahana asked me if I had never met a girl like her,” Armaan said suddenly, voice lower. “She was right. I never have. I always put myself before anyone else… I was selfish. But for the first time, I valued someone more than myself. That’s Ahana. She’s my best friend, and I want her to be happy. For that to happen, you need to recover soon.”
Abhimaan looked at him carefully, then gave a small smile. “Right.”
He reached out, tapped Armaan’s hand, and gave him a thumbs up.
“Good boy.”
Armaan scowled and gave his shoulder a playful smack. Abhimaan laughed.
“By the way,” Abhimaan sipped his coffee, “what about your Ms. Stranger? Did you finally find her?”
Armaan leaned back, a smile tugging his lips. “Yeah, I found her. And I think she’s better than Ahana. She’s… perfectly my type.” He smiled to himself, clearly thinking about Arya.
Abhimaan narrowed his eyes possessively. “What are you saying? No one’s better than my Ahana.”
Armaan ignored him, putting a hand dramatically over his chest. “I think I’m in love… real love. And I think she feels the same. I saw it in her eyes, the way she looks at me—hayee…”
Abhimaan chuckled. “Did you at least ask her name, number, everything this time? Or did you forget again?”
Armaan smirked. “I asked. My Ms. Stranger is no one else but… your sister, Arya.”
Abhimaan choked on his coffee and whipped his head towards him.
“What?! Aruu?! Really? What did she even see in you?”
Armaan grinned and smacked his shoulder again. Abhimaan groaned dramatically, clutching his wound while both of them broke into laughter.
