Chapter Six – Iceberg

Once at home again, I did a little homework and then checked my Facebook. I had twelve friend requests, five messages and three notifications. I went to the friend requests first and accepted Tessa's, Samantha's, the midget who turned out to be called Chloe, a few others and then Kade's. I had to admit, I was hesitant.

Now that we were "friends" I was able to see his photos and such. I didn't want to stalk him or anything, but then again he'd put the pictures out there.

I spotted a couple photos from last night. There was a picture of him with his arm around the model girl. She'd been tagged as Abigail Watts.

I hated her. I hated the way she pressed her chest against Kade's side. I hated the way she was looking at him in a second photo like he'd said the most hilarious thing ever. I hated that he was holding her. I hated that they looked perfect together.

Now depressed, I opened up my messages to find that my friends had not quite deserted me. Cara, Kate, Mel, Joanna and Megan all said they missed me so much and that they want to meet up as soon as possible. I felt like they were forcing it. I replied saying I missed them too and was about to get back to my homework when someone messaged me.

I stared at the screen for a long time, my heart doing a little dance. Kade hade messaged me.

Kade – you accepted ;) for a moment I was really worried and babe I'm not patient.

I rolled my eyes. If he hadn't just been bragging about fucking Jessica what's her face, I would have warmed to his flirting.

Me – I'm not your babe

Was that a little too cold?

Kade - :(

There. Now he knew I was pissed so I'd let him think about that for a moment. Maybe he'd realise that his words had worried me. I didn't want to be treated like all the other girls. I was not going to let him use me.

I finished off the longest chemical equation ever and was about to show it in its ionic form when there was a blink. I glanced up to see that Kade had messaged me again.

Kade – I'm sorry

I sighed, feeling bad. I was so weak.

Me – What for?

Within seconds he had replied.

Kade – it's what I said in the café, isn't it? About sleeping with Jessica.

We both knew there was no question there.

Me – It's fine

Kade – No, it's not. I'm sorry for what I said.

That was all he said. I didn't reply. Tomorrow everything would be back to normal. Last week I'd not seen him once and I doubted we'd bump into each other hilariously at any point at school.

I logged out and then finished my work. By the time I'd decided to order Chinese, my mum was home. Dad would be back later – he was an I.T fanatic. My mum was a part-time nurse at the nearby hospital and then she helped out at the nursery some afternoons.
