Aya:

Damn… My phone went dead again… I thought to myself while gripping my phone tightly. I was about to throw it away but… I might find a place where I can charge my phone again and on top of that, I needed it to stay in touch with the others… It’s a good thing I had unlimited calls, but it’s only up ‘til 5pm everyday and I have to wait ‘til 10pm to be able to call again. Both Aya and I are stuck in Lourdes College... Used to be a place of Heaven... Now turned into the Haven of Hell.

I sighed… I was tired… I’ve been running and hiding from them that it’s draining the life out of me. It’s a good thing I ran into Aya… Yeah, we apparently have the same nickname and we started referring to each other as ‘self’ a few days ago… We’re starting to get closer to each other and I’m glad that I met her. She’s Enya’s friend actually and they both go to school at Xavier University.

I took a glance at Aya lying on a mat on the floor—resting. She was as tired as I am and even though I wanted to lie down and rest, I chose to stand guard instead… I don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s death… I smiled tiredly at her and continued to keep watch.

I could hear their gurgling throats and creepy moans passing by and there are were times when they would get too close to where Aya and I are hiding and I would start to panic… It’s a good thing they never found us… At least… not yet.

Aside from the noises they were making, it was quiet--too quiet, when all of a sudden; the silence was broken by a growl that came from the other side of the wall. My heart stopped for a second and sweat dripped down from my forehead to my cheek. I was holding a metal pipe and I held it close to my chest. Stay calm… Relax… It won’t find you… It won’t find you…I tried to calm myself, but it wasn’t really that effective…

Aya groaned and woke up “Hey Aya… What did--…” I jumped on her as quietly as I could and covered her mouth with one hand and placed my other hands index finger sideways on my lip telling her to be quiet… She didn’t get it at first, ‘til she heard the growl. She whined a bit and I stared at her eye to eye… She quickly got the message and gathered every ounce of her will to be quiet… I leaned back on the wall, while she sat beside me holding on to my sleeve.

We both started to hear the creature sniff-it was trying to find us… I looked at Aya and did sign language and told her that we should start moving… She nodded—terrified and started to crawl the other way, I followed her after. We reached a point where we could squeeze our way to the canteen, I motioned my hand telling her to go first, she hesitated at first but I flicked my hand faster telling her to move.

She hesitantly squeezed her way through… Once she was finally in, I followed. I tiptoed my way to the opening when I accidentally stepped kicked a can and it started rolling noisily towards the quadrangle. The creature howled triumphantly along with the other walking dead “Shit…” I cursed under my breath and I ran towards the opening. “HURRY!” Aya called out.

I squeezed through the opening trying to get in as fast as I can. “Damn it! Why did I get fat…!” I panicked. “Hurry, hurry! They’re coming!” Aya tried to help by pulling me in… “Ow, ow, ow! That hurts…! But pull harder!!” I could feel as though my arm was about to come off but we had no other choice, I had to deal with the pain.

From the corner of my eye I could see them slowly hording up and from above, I could see the creature that scares me the most… It was… The Hunter. This wasn’t like the other Zombies, this one had extraordinary ‘powers’… It can leap from building to building or in this case from wall to wall, can pin you down with no means of escape, and can kill you in an instant with its sharp claws.

It stared at me—drooling… Guess this is it… I’m going to die here… It finally leaped off the wall and It felt like everything was slower than usual… I closed my eyes expecting it to claw me to death but before he could reach me I was finally able to squeeze through… Looks like Aya pulled so hard that we both fell on the floor.

“We should hurry!” Aya helped me up and pulled my arm, I nodded. I was petrified and at the same time relieved that I was able to make it… We ran towards the entrance to the Canteen and exited. We were almost out of the school that made me calm down a bit. We ran towards the small curve and turned right but to our dismay, we found a lot more of them at the entrance. “What do we do now…?” Aya asked desperately.

I quickly remembered that they were attracted to sound… “I have an Idea… I hope I can throw it far enough…” I  breathed, I was almost out of breath and my chest ached… I guess it’s from both the shock and fear I felt. “Throw what?” “This…!” I threw the metal pipe and fortunately, threw it far enough. It clanged on the other side of the entrance and lured the walking dead there.

“Quick…! To the guard house…!” I ordered. We both ran to the guard house and took shelter there, locking the door and closing the tiny window. We sat on the floor and tried to catch our breath… Before I knew it, I fainted and the last thing I heard was Aya calling out my name.”
