Recap -
Ammon reached out desperately, with his last glimpse of hope, to grab a book as a weapon against the creature that was dragging him further and further backwards in the aisle. His fingertips brushed past a thick book, but he was suddenly shoved into a wall, his chest pressed up against the cold material. Out of breath and panting heavily, Ammon tried to escape but felt his arms tighten behind him and a strong grip hold them in place. His kidnapper pushed against him, so that its hot breath brushed against Ammon's neck. This is it, this is really how I'm going to die.
End of recap -
Ammon kicked and tried to make as much noise as possible, but he was too tightly pushed up against the wall to move and his mouth was still covered. "Keep still!" The harsh voice that whispered into his ear silenced him instantly. It sounds... human. Ammon wasn't sure if he heard the voice right, but he was pretty sure it was someone his age. "Mhat are mou mophing?" He tried to mumble through the hand, only to receive a quick painful jab above his hip. He wasn't sure what the person wanted to do to him and he couldn't ask either. Calm down Ammon, the person won't kill you in a school library, so murder is off your list. Hopefully. "You promise not to yell when I let go?" The voice was gentler but still domineering. Ammon nodded even though his cheek rubbed against the wall. He felt the strong grip on his wrists loosen and the weight on his back leave. Taking a few deep, precious gulps of air, Ammon wiped away the sticky hair on his forehead with a trembling hand. Thousands of different ways to escape the tall, muscular person filled his mind. If the kidnapper wasn't too buff, hit him with a book and run. If he was a block of rock hard abs and impossible to escape from, scream for help. However, when Ammon turned around, all the thoughts disappeared like mist and his jaw dropped.
With hands on hips and face slightly red, a small girl stood two metres in front of Ammon. Not any girl either; it was Ruby, the blonde girl in his history class earlier. I just got kidnapped by a girl! Not a blood sucking monster with tentacles. Ammon didn't know how to react. Relief was taken over by shock and confusion. He stood frozen to the spot, mind whirring in puzzlement. "It-t was y-you?" Ammon's voiced cracked and his eyes were opened wide in disbelief. "What do you think you are doing?"
"Look, we don't have time to chit-chat. I know I can trust you, that's why I chose you over the whole class. We need to talk." Ruby whispered the last part. Ammon blinked a few times before responding. "Talk! Are you crazy? You dragged me into the back of the library like a hostage to talk? You could've just asked to talk you know!" Ammon's voice grew louder with anger. Ruby turned around to pick up a few books on the shelf beside her and handed them to Ammon without even blinking her eyes. It was as if she didn't even hear what Ammon just said. "The back of the library has some really good books. They might help us out with this case." She gave him an enthusiastic smile, but he didn't smile back. He wanted to rip the hair off his head, then do the same to her. "You're actually crazy." He took a quick glimpse at the book covers before shoving them back into Ruby's hands. It was then he saw the deep cut on her palm. That's where the smell of blood came from. "Ghosts? Spirits? Seriously? I reckon the toy had some mechanical error, or the heat caused the metal inside to expand, releasing some clogs and screws, that's all." Just as he was about to walk off and get as far away from the strange girl in front of him, a firm hand held him back. "Wait a minute" Ruby said, her eyes staring into Ammon's. He grew uneasy at the intense stare. "You've got to help me out here. You don't really believe the whole mechanical thing, do you?" She raised an eyebrow, waiting for a response. "Why do you need my help?" Ammon wasn't ready to answer her question, so he shot her an accusing one back. "I'm new to this school. You know the place better and the people. Plus from what I know, you have a good brain." She smiled cheekily. Ammon tried to hide the surprise on his face. "What makes you so sure of that?" Ammon looked down at Ruby with his deep dark eyes. "Trust me, I know. Don't underestimate a blonde." Even though Ammon hated to admit it, she did seem pretty smart too. "What do I get from this deal" he asked curiously, hoping for a good reward. "Well, for starters, I won't kidnap you again."
"Deal" Ammon instantly replied, without hesitation. She placed the books in his arms again with a gleaming smile on her face, obviously proud at her achievement. Ammon hated the trap he had gotten himself into, but he didn't want to take any chances with this girl. "Read these and tell me if you see anything interesting tomorrow. I will also be reading some of my own books." Turning around with a slight skip, Ruby started to walk off when Ammon called her name. "What?" she asked, not looking back. "How on Earth do you manage to drag me back here, all by yourself?" She suddenly stopped, and at first Ammon wasn't sure if he had just asked a sensitive question. To his relief, she turned around with a large smirk on her face. Flexing her arms, Ammon was impressed at the muscle he saw. "Basketball" she said simply, and skipped away with her blonde hair flowing behind.
