The Monsters We Love

I walked into Cami's Café. I searched for him in the crowd. Not even with all these people could you not notice him.

Before I left I made sure I covered any bruises. I didn't want them to have yet another reason to go after him.

He saw me and smiled. Gosh, Detective Sexy, that smile. I walked over to were he was and sat across from him.

"Umm.. Hey detective."

"Adrian. You can call me Adrian." We sat in awkward silence. I avoided eye contact but I could feel his stare on me.

"So.." we both said at the same time.

"You go first," Adrian chuckled.

"Thank you. Ummh, the reason I came is because.." I wanted to see your sexy face, "... I want to know why you're after... this guy."

"You're still sticking with that? I know you're his.. girlfriend."

"Why do you insist? I just want to know more about him."

"Fine. Do you know what he does for a living?" He exclaimed. I said nothing, I just looked down at my hands on the table. "He works for Frank Lombardi.."

"You mean Frank Lombardi as in the drug lord Frank Lombardi!?" I interrupted.

"Yes," he said in an annoyed voice, "the drug lord. That's one of the reasons we're after him. He knows where to find Lombardi. Another reason is that Sebastian stole military weapons. He sold those weapons to Lombardi and other criminals."

"Wait. How did he get them or how did he know about these weapons?" I was confused. Sebastian has connections but, the military? He never told me this. Well, he never tells me anything.

"Sebastian was a lieutenant commander in the Navy. That's were he got the weapons from. And that's why we still haven't caught him. He was trained well."

"What... What exactly happened?"

"He was following in the steps of his father, Fleet Admiral Guzman. His father was a great man who raised him well. I don't know how he became a criminal... We don't know exactly how it went down but he met Lombardi. Lombardi offered him a large amount for those weapons, so he sold them. When his father found out, Sebastian killed him... and his mother."

"How?" I asked. I was surprised Adrian even heard me.

"In the most coward way any man can kill someone. Sebastian was celebrating his promotion with his mother and father. The Admiral got a call in the middle of dinner telling him that his son was a criminal. He didn't want to upset his wife so he called Sebastian into his office. When he confronted Sebastian, Sebastian denied everything and he believed him. The Admiral said he would make a call and clear things up but in the meantime they would go back to their dinner. The Admiral went first. When he was seated waiting for his son... Sebastian appeared with a gun and shot him in the head. He was already dead but he continued walking towards the Admiral and shot him 5 more times in the heart. His mom started screaming and crying. Sebastian turned towards her and shot her in the neck making her choke in her own blood..." Adrian stopped talking and looked at me with concerned eyes. "I'm sorry. Is this too much? Do you want me to stop?"

I was in shock. How could someone kill their parents? How could he be so heartless? I felt a tear stream down my face. Don't cry.

Adrian's P.O.V

As I told her what happened I saw her face go paler than it already was. Shit, I'm going to make her cry again.

"I'm sorry. Is this too much? Do you want me to stop?" She stared at the table and then tears started streaming down her eyes. I leaned across the table and wiped her tears. She looked up and smiled at me, thanking me quietly. I forgot all about my hand on her face until she cleared her throat.

"Ahem."

"Oh.. Sorry."

"No worries," she smiled. I could look at that smile all day.

"Nicole, I think we should leave that subject for another day."

"Yeah.. Sure," she looked uncomfortable at the reminder of it. Poor girl, didn't even know about the monster she was with. "So, what's your favorite color?" She asked laughing. I chuckled. She started telling me about her. I wasn't paying attention to most of the stuff she was saying. Looking at her smile and laugh and the way her eyes lit up... It was an unforgettable experience. I'm not a romantic man and I've never been in a serious relationship, all I did was fool around, I never truly felt something for anyone. Until now. Its everything about her. And from what I did hear, we had a lot in common.

"...and that's why I can't have pets!" She laughed. I smiled and just looked at her. Really looked at her, I took in every detail trying to memorize her.

"What?" She said shifting on her chair.

"You're so beautiful." Suddenly she stopped smiling. She looked at her phone

"Oh, its late. I have things to do... Thank you for coming here today," she got up and started to leave. As she reached the door she turned and said "You better not be spying on me." Then she was gone. I had to fight the urge to follow her. I know that I had to do it in order to get Sebastian. She was my lead. But, I didn't want her not to trust me. I wanted to see her again. I needed to see her again.
