A Love That Kills

Haven: part two

"So what's your favorite color?" Sarah asked. I was currently sitting in Adrian's living room.
"Ummh... I don't know. I like green." She looked at me as if another head sprung out of my body.
"Green?!" she exclaimed disgusted. "That's a boy color! My favorite color is purple. " I laughed. She was so cute. I always wanted a little sister.
"Sarah!" Bobbi called from the kitchen, "Dinner is ready!"
I had been in Adrian's house since the early afternoon and it was already 6 pm. Adrian had left to work and was going to work late. After Adrian introduced me, Elizabeth left with her friends and Lucy went to take a "nap" leaving me alone with Bobbi and Sarah. Bobbi didn't say much to me, she busied herself with cleaning and then making dinner.
Bobbi came into the living room.
"Hey, Nicole," she sat down next to me.
"Yeah?"
"Be honest with me. What exactly are you to Adrian because I don't buy that you're his friend. I know my cousin and he doesn't do girl friends. And he would never bring one home or let them spend the night." I looked at her. What do I tell her? I can't tell her that I'm the girlfriend of the man he's after.
"Well, ummmh... I guess you can say that... I'm his charity case," I chuckled nervously. That's kind of true. She gave me a confused look. "Well you see... I'm kind of in a.. an abusive relationship and well... your cousin wants me to leave him and... turn him in. But yeah, he's trying."
"He has a habit of trying to fix people," Bobbi whispered. She was looking down at her hands. She looked up at me and gave me a sad smile. "You're broken. And he cares about you and wants to fix you. Wait, so that's why you're spending the night. You got in a fight with your boyfriend. "
"Yes." I sighed. She grabbed my hand.
"Everything will be fine," she said and hugged me. I hugged her back. It felt really nice, almost motherly.
"Thank you." She pulled away.
"Now, join us for dinner. I'll go call my aunt."
I walked into the dining room.
"Hey Nicki!" Elizabeth hugged me.
"Oh hey! You scared me. I didn't hear you come in," I laughed. She sat down across from Sarah.
"Come sit next to me," she patted the chair next to her. Bobbi and Lucy entered the dining room. Bobbi sat next to Sarah across from me and Lucy sat at the end of the table on Sarah's and Elizabeth's end.
"Adrian is working late tonight," Lucy told us. "So Sarah, how do you like Nicole?" she asked her as she started eating.
"She's super cool but..." she looked down at her plate, "her favorite color is green." We all started laughing. I looked at her and gave her a smile.
"We should hang out Nicki," Elizabeth looked at me. "Tomorrow we're going to the beach. You should come with me."
"Ummh, yeah. Sure," I smiled at her. I looked at them. They look like the perfect family. "So... who else lives here? Or is it just you guys?"
"No, it's just us and Adrian. Adrian took me in when I was pregnant with Sarah," Bobbi said.
"Yes, my brother became the man of the house after... after my father's death... and.. he took care of us," Elizabeth started, " at first it was just the three of us but then after he found out about Bobbi's situation , he took her in to."
"I told you he likes to fix things," Bobbi said.
Lucy changed the subject and we started talking about Elizabeth's day. We talked and talked about many things. I felt happy. Happy and all warm inside. I didn't know what a real family was like until now. I felt like an intruder but at the same time, I had never felt so welcomed before.

"Thanks for helping me," Bobbi said as I finished drying the last plate, "Lizzy never helps and well, I can't let my aunt do anything because of all she's done for me."
"No problem," I smiled.
"You know... I don't really get along with a lot of people because I have a strong personality but... I like you. You're like a... a younger me."
"Thanks. I appreciate that."
"Adrian's here!" Sarah yelled as she ran towards the door. Adrian came in and Sarah attacked him with a hug. Aww, they're so cute.

It was 11 pm and we had just finished watching our third movie. We were all in the living room and I was having the time of my life. It was fun being with them. They treated me like family.
"O.k girls.. it's late and I have to wake up early and so does Sarah," Adrian said as he carried Sarah. "Let's go to sleep."
"UGHH!" groaned Elizabeth and Sarah.
"Ummh.. Nicole, you can sleep... with.."
"With me!" Elizabeth interrupted.
"Ok. Let's go Sarah." He kissed Lucy goodnight and left. We all followed then.
"Come on," Elizabeth dragged me to her room.
"Whoa.." I said as I entered. "Its so... pink. "
"Don't judge. I love pink," she laughed. She walked into her closet and walked out with her PJ's and a large shirt. "Here. Wear this so you can sleep comfortable."
"Thanks." I took my clothes off and put the shirt on. "It smells nice."
"I stole it from Adrian." What? This is detective Sexy's shirt? "Did you just call my brother detective sexy?" She laughed. Oops, I said that out loud.
"No. I mean.." I stuttered.
"Ha, just admit it. I heard you. " She sat on her bed. "Come on let's talk. Girl to girl," she called me over to the bed. I walked over and sat next to her.
"Elizabeth.. "
"Lizzy," she corrected. "Elizabeth is too formal. "
"Lizzy.. I don't know what's happening," I looked at her. She looked at me urging me to continue. "I.. ever since I met your brother.. I can't stop thinking about him."
"Then don't. Oh my God! He needs someone. He has to settle down sooner or later. And we all like you!"
"Oh, no. I have a boyfriend."
"Oh," she said disappointed. "Does he know you're here?"
"No. We got in a fight." Her eyes lit up.
"Its a sign. Maybe you and Adrian are supposed to end up together!" I laughed. She bumped my shoulder. "Don't pretend like you don't like that idea," she laughed. "Let's go to sleep. " She turned off the lights and got under the covers. I laid next to her.
