-Start of Backstory-

Queen Moon Yoojin had once been the soft heartbeat of the kingdom.
Where her husband ruled with structure and strategy, she ruled with warmth. Citizens called her the gentle queen, the mother of the realm, the light that never dimmed.

She remembered every servant's name, every child who would run to her with scraped knees, every farmer who would bow nervously when she passed. Yoojin always stopped for them. She always smiled for them. She always cared.

And when she found out she was carrying a daughter—her first girl after five sons—her joy was indescribable.

The king was pleased but practical.
He loved his wife, cherished their growing family, but with five sons already groomed for the throne, he viewed the unborn princess simply as another blessing—not the miracle Yoojin felt her to be.

The whole nation celebrated the coming princess. Songs were written. Lanterns were released into the night sky. And Yoojin glowed through it all.

Until she didn't.

The glow faded first.
Then the strength.
Then the smile.

Small things at the start—Yoojin hiding tremors in her fingers, brushing off sudden dizziness, swallowing back fear as shadows slipped too close. But soon the palace staff whispered when she passed. Her steps were lighter, shakier. Her voice thinner. She barely slept. Her fainting spells grew frequent and frightening.

The king begged to assign her a personal nurse.
Yoojin refused.

"I only want Miyeon," she said softly. "She... she comforts me."

Jung Miyeon, her dearest friend.

The woman who had stood beside her in laughter and sorrow.
The woman Yoojin trusted more than anyone.

And because Yoojin asked, Miyeon was brought to her side—day after day, tea in hand, sympathy in her eyes, secrets hidden behind her gentle smile.

But Yoojin had a secret too.

A secret she had kept since childhood.

She was a clairvoyant.

She saw the world in layers—its past lingering like smoke, its future flickering like candlelight.

And one night, with her hand resting protectively over her belly, a vision crashed through her.

A terrible vision.

Her unborn daughter—dead.
Destiny swallowing her whole.
Blood staining stone.
A sacrifice demanded by fate itself.

Yoojin woke screaming.

From that night onward, she never rested. Her mind spun endlessly around one fear: How do I save her?

She confided only in Miyeon—not knowing that this would be her greatest mistake.

For Miyeon learned everything.
