Chapter 3
It's about six in the morning, I woke up before my alarm goes off about three minutes early. It felt like a heavy weight is on my shoulders cause i never felt like this before, i feel stiff and my mind is racing with thoughts and non-social things. I dont know whats wrong with me this morning but if im going to a new school today, this needs to end.
I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth and put my makeup on, the normal routine; black eyeliner, mascarea, white eyeshadow, and some blush. People say I look like a Barbie doll, I dont see it. Kurk comes wallceing in and gargiling with mouth wash, spits it out into the sink and almost gets it on me. I just slapped him in the back and went to get dressed.
At breakfast, it would be like it was back home in the U.S., cereal or waffles, some OJ, toast with grape or strawberry jelly. So its technically what you would do in your every morning life.
When we were done, Kurk and I got into the Volvo and waited for our mom to get take us to school. Kurks looking at me with a goofy grin on his face.
"What?"
"Are you nervous?"
"What! No, why whould I be nervous?" Okay, im lying to my own brother. Is that a bad thing to do?
"Aleera, I no how you are. Your nervous, I can tell. There's nothing to worry about."
"Easy for you to say. Your not a bit nervous? Were going to a new school thats across many oceans and countries and your not even a tad bit nervous?"
"Maybe just a tiny bit, but at least im not sweating like a total lunatic." I looked at the mirror, he was right. I'm starting to sweat. Am I that nervous or something. Oh gosh, i hope i dont get sweat stains under my arms, that would be my major concern throught the day and trying not to make a total idiot out of myself.
"Shut up. I'm nervous enough as it is, I dont need you to keep pressuring me--"
"Calm down, calm down. You'll be just fine." I hope he's right about that.
Mom comes out looking her finest, as usual. Since shes a lawyer and all. She gets into the car and looks at Kurk and I in the backseat.
"You two ready?"
"Yupp, lets go" Kurk is pumped, me? not so much.
"Aleera?"
"Sort of, lets just go and get it over with." The drive wasnt suppose to take long, the school is bout ten blocks down town and it seemed to take like hours. All kinds of illusions started running through my mind as we approched the school; What will the kids think? Will I fit in? How will today turn out? Will I like it? Good lord im scared to death.
When Mom pulled into a parking space, I looked to my right by the window and saw the kids going into the school like their regular selves, no worries or expectations. My brother and I got out and followed our mother to the office of the school. Then inside wasnt what I pictured at all, it looked like somewhere you would go to like a academy but without uniforms. The lockers were all different colored and designed, the title floor was like luxury but very expensive looking. I looked out the window and I never seen so much debris in my life.
When we got into the office, a woman with funny looking glasses was at desk and saw my mom. She spoke english, thank god I dont have to translate. Kurk and I sat in the chairs; He was unfortuanitlly listing to his ipod, im just shaking. I looke out the door into the hallway, I see the kids that are walking by; some are looking through and looking at us and some just wave and walk by. Wow, is this a nice school or a do or die instiution?
Kurk and and I get our scheduals and our locker combinations. The woman told us that her name is Mrs. Drita and that if we had any problems, come and see her. I bet ill have more than just problems at this school.
Preparing for the worst, a guy walks in. Never seen a man like this before; tall, black hair, blue eyes, broad shoulders, thin, wearing all black, neat looking. Was everybody like this?
"Kenneth, this is Aleera Nelson and her older brother Kurk. They just transfered here from the U.S." The man just looked at me, not even looking at my brother, just at me. What was he doing?
"Will you show Aleera around to make her more comfortable?" He just nodded and waved his arm over his shoulder for me to follow him.
"If he even tries to do anything to you sis, i'll kick his ass" Kurk says looking at him from the back.
"Oh shut up." And I followed "Kenneth" down the hall.
"There's the cafetearia, study hall, band room, and science labs....." I was to fanisized by the way he talked than what he was showing me. I feel better all ready. Then we stopped at a locker.
"This is your locker." He did my combination and opened it, helped me put my things in there and closed it.
"First period will start in four minutes, see you around." Then he left. See you around??? Is that a type of slang word they use now-a-days here in Germany. hmmm, i'll keep that in mind.
My first hour is Math. Great, just what i need to start out my morning. I walked up stairs and turned a sharp corner 'til I found room 203. When I walked in people were staring at me, not gawking just looking. And guess whos in there, you guessed it. Kurk? FML!
I walked up to the front desk and gave the teacher a slip that said something about a transferer.
"Make yourself at home----" She couldn't pronounce my name.
"Aleera...."
"What a beautiful name. You look like a little doll, please have a seat." Again, still dont see it.
As I sat down at the back of the room, the kids were looking at me and my brother but no converstaions were lifted, I was looking out the window when I felt a cool breeze blew by me. There that sat next to me was Kenneth, Oh god kill me now.
