Chapter 5
I woke up and got in the shower, then went down to breakfast. Kurk was just getting finished as I sat down for some cereal, I just so happened to look up to find my mom sniffing at the air. Oh crap. The garlic!
"Do any of you smell something....... Like a garlicy smell---"
"Nope. I think you allergies are starting up mom," She can not find out I have garlic cause then it will just turn into a big ordeal about some stupid nonsense.
"Okay? Grab a piece of toast, you'll be late for school." I did as I was told so I could hurry and get the evidence out of the house. It was real bright and sunny out this morning, the sky was a beautiful baby blue and the clouds were perfect white with the birds just flying in the air. Kurk was already in the car listing to some disturbed while I opened my backpack and looked at the garlic, perfectly sealed nice and tight in a bowl. Mom then came out and got in the car and I quickly zipped it, almost getting my finger caught in the process.
"Are you okay Aleera? This is the second day in row that you've been jumpy. Whats wrong?"
"I'm fine mom. Really I am, there's nothing to worry about." She just looked at me through the rearveiw mirror, shrugged her shoulders, and started the car. I really need to stop tripping over things.
In school I was at my locker, getting a few things for math when I felt a breeze. I looked to my right to the direction where it was coming from and it was only a couple that was walking to class. I walked to math and saw Kurk talking to some of his new buddies and overheard about one of them say that there was a kidnapping last night; an officer was on a patrol at a local mall downtown and somebody just snatched him up and nobody's heard anything else. Weird, I thought that this was going to be a nice town, not a kidnapping zone. I hope the officer's okay.
I sat down at my seat and looked out the window, only two minutes 'til the bell rang fo rclass to start. Where was Kenneth? He seemed fine yesterday, so he can't be sick. The teacher looked around the room.
"No Kenneth today?"
"No," one of the other students said.
"Alright then," and she marked him absent. It seemed to be forever for school to let out, when it finally did, mom was outside and I was the first one to get to the car.
"How was your day?" mom asked, this time actually looking at me.
"It was fine. Did you know an officer got kidnapped last night?"
"Yes, I read about it in the newspaper this morning."
"Does anybody know who may have done it?"
"I''m not so sure about that, hopefully he turns up." Yea, probably mulled to death by carnivours or man eating people.
At dinner that night, I barely touched any of the meatloaf. I asked to be excused and went to my room. I did some research; that kidnapping really got to me. I want to find out if there was any other kidnappings, turns out; theres been many kidnappings in the past year, including this month. Over two hundred people were reported missing, none found yet. Gosh, poor people.
