I walked to the beach and saw Shane sitting on a black and white towel. Then he turned around and looked at me and I could see a smile forming on his face. I smiled back.

I was wearing a blue t-shirt and a pair of black shorts. I had my hair down in its natural curls. He was wearing a black shirt with beige cargo shorts, and his blond hair messed up from the wind.

I walked up and sat beside him.

                "Hey." I said to him.

                "Hey. What's up?" He said.

                "Nothing much. How about you?"

"Nothing really." He said shrugging his shoulders.

I felt my cheeks reddening. "I have a question... What was your past like? Or how was your life as a kid?" I asked.

There was a pause then he answered, "I don't remember." I know instantly that he is lying. He is looking anywhere but at my eyes and he his twiddling with his fingers. Me, I have had lots of practice lying. I hate it but it is for the best. I just can’t look at people in the eyes, looking at people in the eyes makes me feel that they need to know the truth, that I have no other option. Even if it were a life or death situation.

"Really," I asked in hopes that he would give me a different answer.

"Yeah, I can't remember anything before last year. I can't even remember who my dad was." He said avoiding my eyes, "my mom doesn't like to talk about him." I stared at him, maybe for too long but he didn't look back at me. Either he was telling the truth or he was a very good liar. If he was lying, what was he trying to hide from me? He shifts and I look away, "How about you, what was your childhood like?"

"The only thing interesting was that I almost died a while ago."

"You what? How?!" He asked, alarm in his voice.

"I got beat up, many of my bones were broken, and the doctor’s didn't think they could fix all of them, the bottom of my ribcage was pressing against my stomach and liver. My legs were broken also. But now I'm all better now, so there's nothing to worry about." I said laughing as if it was nothing, just reassuring him. I would have died if my parents hadn't gotten the potion. He shifted in discomfort.

He was staring at me with a tear in his eye. He grabbed me and pulled me close. My face pressed against his warm chest and his arms around me. "I won’t let anything like that happen to you, ever." He spoke but didn't release me. I hoped that he never would. But all I can think is that he still isn't telling me something. Looks like we both have something hidden.

                And it hurts.

They've found us. They've located us. We've been here for three weeks; this is the longest time we have been in one place. I don’t want to leave. My parents have been suggesting that we leave very soon but I kept on refusing. I said that they can go without me, but I don’t want to leave Shane. We might as well let them find us; I don’t want to be running for my entire life: Which will be a long time.

Shane and I have been meeting almost every day at the beach just enjoying each other’s company.

I get to see him today and I think it's time to tell him that I have to leave. My heart breaks just thinking about it. I don’t want to leave him.

I get out of bed and get dressed into my black leggings with black leather boots and my favourite long green t-shirt. I tied my hair back in a ponytail and grabbed my room key and exited the room. I closed the door behind me. When I left, Amanda was still sleeping. I don't know what she will think when she wakes up and I'm not there... but I'll be back.

I get into the elevator and press 1, the main lobby. Finally, the elevator opens again and I'm in the main lobby the brightness of the walls and windows reflecting the suns light makes me squint. I walk across the hall, past my parents drinking coffee on the lobby couches in the corner. I say under my breath, "Please don't see me, please don't see me, please don’t see me."

I'm finally out of the hotel and walking across the street and down until I reach the beach and see Shane there waiting. He's looking out into the ocean staring into space just like how we first met. I sit next to him and say, "Hi, I have something to tell you."

                "Hey, what is it?"

"Remember when I told you how I almost died. That happened when I was 17."

"Yes. But aren't you still 17 though?"

"Yes, but listen. I was nearly dead until... until... my parents brought the potion of infinite life to me and I drank it as well as them, my mom, dad and Amanda. That is why I'm still here. I've been alive for 216 years... Are you okay?" I looked at him; he had his mouth hung open staring at me. "Hello?" I waved my hand in front of his face.

"Hi, sorry," He shakes his head," I'm just trying to process all this information."

"Oh." I pause," I don't quite know what you mean."

"Never mind, I'm just happy you are here... with me." My cheeks went red as he said it. He still likes me.

"But now the government wants to kill us in order to get the potion of infinite life for themselves. I've always wondered what it would be like... not running, just having a normal life." I looked down at my shoes, I couldn't look at his face when I said this, "But now,” I inhale and exhale as I say; “I have to leave.” I didn't want to say it. I didn't want to leave. I was expecting him to tell me what he was keeping secret from me. But he doesn’t tell me.

"NO. No... You can't... I'm coming with you." He said.

"I can't let you put yourself in danger because of me. No. I won’t let you risk your life for me," I said sternly, tears welling in my eyes.

"What if I don’t care?" He replied almost instantly. Is he really going to come with me and risk his life, for me? I turn to face him and he's looking at me with tears also welling in his eyes.

"I still won't let you," I say again looking at the ground to avoid his eyes. I have to leave, I got up and turned away about to take a step in the direction of the hotel we are staying at. But before I could take a step he grips my hand in his and pulls me back down and I land in his lap. Our eye's meet and he leans in and this time I don't resist I lean in and our lips meet. His warm lips against mine. I rap my arms around him and he does the same. My fingers running threw his hair. And once again we were the only people on the beach, on the planet.

We stand up and he reaches out his hand to mine I slip my hand into his locking our fingers together and we walk back to the hotel.
