Slam, slam, slam, slam.

I jolted awake, finding myself pressed against Axel's equally alert and confused body. "Wha'? Wha' you doing, Colt?" he demanded sleepily before heavily slams on the door sounded again. "What the fuck!"

"Alpha! We need you! It's urgent." The voice was muffled through the thick, locked door, but familiar.

"What time is it?" demanded Axel, rubbing his hands over his tired eyes in a way to try and wake up.

I peered at the digital clock on the bedside table. "Two in the morning."

I would have woken up within the next hour to complete my plan of escape. My exhaustion was forgotten as furyand despair made tears weld in my eyes. My plan had been foiled. How was I supposed to go find my Emory now? "Axel!"

I knew that voice. It belonged to Chandler, right? "Fuck'n-A, Chandler!" snarled Axel throwing the covers back.

I hugged my body as the cool air pressed against my skin, coaxing up goose bumps from my exposed arms. Axel threw the door open dramatically, somehow looking lethal and powerful while standing in front of the fully dressed men wearing just underwear. I saw the other man was a very frazzled looking Austin and I instantly worried for Dawson's safety. "Two-two things," stammered Chandler, clearing rushing. "There's a pup who's shown up in our land. He claims to be looking for his father."

My heart seemed to stop in my chest. No. I couldn't be. Had my baby found me? "Is it Emory?" I demanded, not caring if I angered Axel. I needed to know if it was my baby or not. I got out of bed, moving toward Chandler despite Axel snapping at me to be quiet and go back to bed. But I knew my pup's scent and it was on him. "It's him!"

I began to sob then, purely out of happiness. There was finally a silver lining in this never ending storm of my life. I even embraced my mate, momentarily forgetting the crimes he'd committed against me. "He's here, Axel! He's safe!"

Axel looked annoyed, though his annoyance slowly turned to a small smile. His fingers ran over my cheeks, catching a tear drop. "You look so different when you cry with a smile," he said softly, looking at me as though something made sense to him that didn't before. But I didn't care what he was feeling.

"Let me see him," I begged, sniffling. "Let me see my baby."

"Yes, darling. Just let me get my clothes on."

"Sir--Granger's escaped as well."

My heart seemed to freeze in my chest. Granger was...free? "How?" hissed Axel venomously, pivoting sharply to glare at his beta.

Chandler took a slight step back, his tone turning to one of apology. "I'm sorry, sir. I am. It was during all teh confusion with the pup-- Sir, he's soot black. There's something powerful about him. I don't know if I trust it."

"Forget the damn pup you idiot! You let that bastard escape? I should've killed both of you when I had the chance!"

Axel's tone had shifted to the one he used before he ever seriously hurt me. I watched helpless as Axel took Chandler by the throat, slamming him into the wall. The beta choked, hands shifting into claws that scrabbled at the hand denying him oxygen. If anything it just made Axel's eyes colder and his snarl deeper as he strangled his second-in-command. "Axel!" I finally whimpered when I watched Chandler going limp. "Don't! It's not his fault! Please!"
