The accident

JOE'S POV

We got to the hospital and Amber still hadn't come round. I was panicking so much, what would I do without her? She was so special to me.. I was sat in the waiting room for hours with my head in my hands. 'Amber's friend?' I looked up to see a doctor looking at me.

'yes?' I said 

'It's bad news I'm afraid.' At this point the tears started to flow again.

'what is the bad news?'

'Well, we have managed to make her stable but we are unsure of the damage to her legs and spine at this point.'

'So you're saying she might not be able to walk when she wakes up?!'

'We aren't saying for definite but its a possibility. You're allowed to see her now, try talking to her she might wake up if she hears a familiar voice' I walked into the room and she looked peaceful, she looked fragile. Her makeup had smudged from crying and she had cuts all over her face. Despite all of this she still looked like the beautiful girl that I knew and loved.

(A few hours later)

I was still at her side, slowly falling asleep when I heard her starting to murmur. 'Amber?' I said as I rushed to get a doctor. The doctor checked her eyes to see how she responded and she seemed to be okay. 'I'll leave you two alone' the doctor said and then left. 

'Amber, thank god you're okay. I don't know what-'

'Get out!' she shouted

'Look let me explain.'

'I said go.' she said crying. I wasn't taking no as an answer I rushed over to her and hugged her making sure that I didn't hurt her as I did so. She refused to hug me for a while but then she cried into my shoulder as we hugged. We were hugging for a while when she started to scream out in pain. 'Amber! What is it? What's the matter?!' I screamed.

'I can't feel my legs and my stomach is killing me!' she cried. I ran to get a doctor quick and then they told me that I wasn't allowed in the room and told me to go and get some rest and to get changed as there was nothing I could do while I was there but they promised to call as soon as they could. I went back to the hotel and got a shower and had a bite to eat before trying to get some sleep. Of course I couldn't sleep because I was too worried about her. Early the next morning I got dressed and rushed back to the hospital. The receptionist informed me that she had gone into theater as she was bleeding internally. I waited in the waiting room for a couple of hours but then decided to go out and buy her some flowers and a teddy to cheer her up. PING!! I looked at my phone:

Amber: Joe, I'm sorry we fought, I need to talk to you come to the hospital ASAP!

Joe: OMW!

I ended up not getting her anything and rushed back to the hospital, 'hey!' I said.

'Hello Joe'

'What's wrong?' I asked.

'I wanted to explain about last night, running off and all that. I find you an amazing friend and I don't want to ruin our friendship if we went out and broke up. Also, I'm scared of being in a relationship after Mike.' She started to cry and I comforted her.

'Who was Mike?' 

'He was my first love when I was just a teenager, we were inseparable we were going out for 4 years...'

'What happened?'

'Well he wanted to do stuff which I didn't feel ready to do and when I told him that I wasn't ready he wouldn't take no for an answer he grabbed me and he kept punching and punching me until I was helpless and then he pinned me down on the bed and you can guess the rest...' at this point she was sobbing like crazy. 'It's alright' I said, 'I'm here for you now and if you want to be friends then that's fine I just want and need you in my life. You mean so much to me.' Then I left trying to take in the news. Oh god Joe, you've been so stupid.

(A few weeks later)

Amber was now out of hospital and I was doing my best to make her happy because she still couldn't walk. We were back in England now and I was always going around to the Kamber household to look after Amber when Kim wasn't there. Me and Amber are getting along fine and are friends now, I still love her but I have now got a girlfriend called Sam. We have been dating for a few weeks now but whenever I try to arrange for Amber to meet her Amber always comes up with an excuse as to why she can't meet her. Its a little bit strange but its understandable given the circumstances. I had something playing on my mind though, why didn't Amber have her parents numbers in her phone and why did she never mention them? I decided to ask her so I called her and asked her over the phone:

'Hello' she said.

'Hey, I have to ask you something.'

'Okay?' she replied.

'Why do you never mention your parents?'

'Well you see, they-they're dead...' there was a long, awkward pause until she continued. 'My father died when I was 3 years old and a couple of months ago my mum died... That's why I have.. scars'

'I'm sorry for bringing it up..' I felt really guilty now...
