Chapter 08

Vanessa's POV

After what seemed like billion of hours I finally fell asleep. But my sleeping ended up being cut short by the sound glass breaking and shouting. I looked over at my bedside table and saw that my alarm clock said it was 4:36 am.
I don't want to get up, but what's the point of staying in bed if I can't fall asleep again? The noise came from Adam's room, which made me what to know what was going on, but I also didn't want to enter his room and get slapped again. I know I said I forgiven him, but it hurts to know that your brother,older brother, had slapped you, even if it was on accident.
I got out of bed and knock on Adam's door.
"Adam? Is everything okay? I'm coming in okay?" With that I opened the door to Adam's room, what surprised me, wasn't that Adam's room was a disaster but that Adam was crying. I have never seen my brother cry, I mean have never ever seen him cry for anything except for that one time when he was 6 but that was because he lost his stuffed animal. I quickly ran to my crying brother.
"Adam?" I kneeled down beside him, shaking him slightly.
"I'm so sorry Essa I didn't mean to slap you, I swear I didn't mean to. Please forgive me? I can't live with myself knowing that I have hurt you." He finally said, even with tears running down his face, I still didn't understand why he was asking me for forgiveness, when a couple of hours ago I forgived him.
"Adam, it's okay. I know you didn't mean to, I saw the regret in your eyes, okay? Now please get up and act like the man you are, come on."
"You forgive me? Even after I left you with dad and that bitch?"

"Yes, Adam I do, now go back to sleep, I'll clean this up after school." With that I walked out his room, returning to my room and thought for a while that maybe Julio and Mrs. Hernandez don't remember me, I sure hope they don't remember me. Someone knowing my past scares me, so many things that I will be asked if I told them who I really was. I can't let them or anyone know.
6:50am
For the past two hours I've been on run and eaten breakfast, for the first time in a while I've actually felt hungry in the morning. Currently I'm in the kitchen making Adam and dad breakfast, while listening to Melanie Martinez's Dollhouse. When all the sudden I feel my hair being pulled with such force, it made me see dots for a few seconds.
" Listen closely here you little slut. I want you and your brother to keep your mouths shut, if any of this comes out to your father, you know exactly what will happen, maybe even worse. So watch what you say to your father. Now hurry up and leave!"

7:20am
After the warning that Amanda had given me I was scared, I didn't want to tell Adam because I knew if I told him, he would go straight to dad, and that couldn't happen. I was scared of what she might do, will she have her 'friend' try to rape me again and this time no one would be able to save me like last time. Once I was done with making breakfast, I lied to my dad that I had to leave early for an assessment at school. The truth I didn't want to face Adam, he could have sensed that something was wrong. And I'm walking to school, listing all the possibilities Amanda could do to me.

As I walk down the school's hallways, I felt like someone was following but every time I turned around no one was there. I thought I was going crazy until I noticed that every time I turned there he was, with a smirk on his face. I thought I was imagining things until he walked up to me and stared me down, I knew what that stare meant, it meant I know what you are hiding and soon everyone will know.
"Nice to see you around here, Abigail." He said and walked away, leaving me scared to death I could not believe that Nathan Castillo was back and he KNEW.
