Day 6
We found them. And lost them. But I know we can find her. And Dan. I know if I report back to the company, Andrew will personally hunt them both down. Just because I'm so close.
I'm not really sure what else to write. Oh! They were running with a girl but when we spoke to her, she would give any information. I'm guessing she's trying to hide them. Which means she cares for both of them. Or she just happened to be running at the same that Dan and Ash were. Either way, she won't be helping us.
I sighed and placed the notepad down in front of me. I looked back over at the open door. After a few minutes, I began to drift off. I almost fell asleep before I heard a door open, and then some voices. I got up and walked slowly over to the door. When I got there, I heard a very familiar voice. One that I had heard over an ear piece several times.
"Oh Phil... he's not okay."
I nearly jumped. Without thinking, I stepped into the hall and looked at her.
And there she was.
Ashley Silent.
I stared at her as if I hadn't seen her in years when in reality, it hadn't even been a week. The moment she spotted me, I realized that this was a mistake. The entire company I still worked for was after her and Dan. I was a threat to her.
"Savannah?" She breathed out. Phil turned to look at me. I saw the surprise in his face. Ashley looked angry at the entire world. "I just wanted some god damn milk and now I have to deal with this crap!"
She turned back into the room leaving the door open. Was she inviting us in? I looked at Phil and we shared an awkward moment before I walked in and he carefully followed. I suddenly remembered I didn't have my gun with me and I felt unsafe, yet at the same time, glad I didn't have one. I liked computers not guns.
"Why are you here?" Ashley crossed her arms and looked at us. I swallowed and glanced at Phil, who looked everywhere but at Ashley. "Well?"
"Phil came looking for Dan and-"
"I know that. I'm asking you, Wilkie." She interrupted and glared at me. I shifted under her stare and looked away. She was very intimidating. Or maybe that was just me.
"I came looking for you, Ashley." I tried saying confidently. It didn't sound very confident.
She half smirked. I bet she thought she was being cool. But that's probably what she thought about me thinking I was confident, so I really wasn't in a position to judge.
"Everyone is looking for Dan and I, Wilkie." Ashley replied, slightly angry. I saw Phil move at the mention of Dan's name. "The company, assassins, other companies, other assassins. They're all after our bounty. Companies need their secrecy and Dan is a criminal so-"
"No he's not." Phil quickly stopped Ashley from "insulting" his best friend. "Dan hasn't done anything wrong. I'm with him all the time."
Just then, a door opened behind Ash. A tall brown haired boy walked out and stood next to Ash, gazing down at Phil. Everyone was looking at him, and he was looking at Phil.
"Dan?" Phil breathed out. This was the first time he had seen him up close since before Dan "died". Phil was surprised, happy, overjoyed, but worried. He had just been told his best friend was a criminal; of course he was worried.
Phil dashed forwards and wrapped his arms around Dan. Dan didn't hesitate to hug back. They stayed like that for about a minute. I wanted to hug Ashley but she never seemed like the touching type. Not with me, at least.
Dan was the one to start to pull away but Phil didn't want to let go. As soon as he did, they would have some explaining to do. And all Phil wanted was his best friend.
"Phil," Dan started. His shoulder was wet from Phil's silent tears and Phil's face was stained. "YouTube was never enough."
Phil's breathing stopped. Dan's eyes were filled with guilt. He never wanted to tell Phil this.
Phil looked down at his shoes. After a few moments of awkward silence, Dan spoke.
"Phil, I never-"
"How long?" Phil mumbled.
"What?" Dan asked, just wanting to curl up in a ball of sadness.
I risked a glance at Ashley. She was staring at Phil. Every now and then her eyes would flicker over to Dan. I thought about her and I. I was terrified of her sometimes. I respected her. I knew she was talented at what she did. In her presence, I was scared of calling her Ash instead of Ashley. She called me by my last name because she knew we weren't very close. It was probably offensive to her that I even call her anything but her last name. Were we even friends? I considered her my friend. She probably called me her ex-coworker.
"How long were you lying to me?" Phil stood up straight and looked Dan in the eyes. "How... Damn... Long?"
You could visibly see Dan breaking into a million little pieces. He was filled with guilt. His best friend was angry at him. I bet he wished he never pulled away from that hug.
"Just a few um, weeks..." Dan looked away. "Maybe months."
Phil was crying.
Before I could even blink, Phil turned and nearly launched himself at me. I had to position my legs do I would topple over. I was surprised, but wen I thought about it, he didn't have anyone else to hug. He was angry at Dan, and didn't know Ashley. I accepted his hug and wrapped my arms around Phil.
"Phil," I whispered.
He whimpered.
"He's your best friend."
Suddenly, Phil froze. He stood up and stared down at me. He licked his lips, wiped his eyes, and took a deep breath. He turned to Dan who had tears threatening to spill.
"Someone please explain what's going on." Phil looked at Ashley and I. "Savannah, you mentioned something about a company."
Ashley took a deep breath. "Well, one of the reasons I can't trust Savannah is because she works for a nameless company that wants me and Dan dead. Dan is a criminal and I'm telling people about the existence of the company." She glanced over at me and I quickly looked away. Just like some middle school crush. "Telling people about it is a huge no-no, punishable by death." Ashley suddenly had a huge smile on her face. "But I've got a plan."
We were all staring at her. "What's the plan?" I asked her.
"Because of us, almost all the other agencies, companies, gangs, and assassins know that our company exists. Since everyone knows, it'll be to hard to kill everyone. So we could get away with this. We could all join the nameless company." Ashley stood up even higher and stared at Dan, obviously having a conversation of their own.
