Heiress 101
CHAPTER v

"Kyaaaaaaa!" A loud scream echoed through the forest but it wasn't Avry's. It was owned by a young boy. All heads turned to his direction as Shade screamed his name and he rushed to his little brother's side. Avry and Cary followed suit.

"Isaac, what's wrong?" He checked the little boy but didn't see anything wrong with him. He also had an excited look in his eyes and he was smiling really wide. Shade thought it was weird. "Isaac, what happened? Isaac!"

"Horseyyyy!" He released himself from Shade and ran near Avry's horse.

He was giggling and seemed so happy they all smiled too. Isaac's warmth and happiness spread and affected the three of them.

They didn't seem... harmful. Avry's fear slowly faded away and she walked beside the horse. She didn't  know its name but she had to come up with one.

"This is... umm... Jean. He's my friend's horse." The horse seemed to disagree about the name but didn't show signs of protest.

"Can I sit on it? Pweaseee?" Isaac asked sweetly. He was not gonna take no for an answer. Avry nodded and Shade lifted Isaac and made him sit at the back of Jean.

Jean whinnied and started galloping slowly, careful not to drop Isaac.

"Me too! Me too!" Cary yelled excitedly. Avry helped her up and stood on the opposite side of Shade. She started to look at him. He was good looking. And what a damn fine specimen he was.

His eyes were brown with long eyelashes. His eyebrows were dark and thick.  A slight blush was on his fair cheeks and he had a brown hair that looked really soft even if it was messy from the lake. And his jaws... it can tear your panties off.

Shade seemed to notice her starring and he laughed softly.

"Is there something on my face?" His smile was angelic and Avry swore lightning could hit her and she won't be as electrified as she is right now.

"N-no. No, nothing." She looked away, cursing herself. She was never weak for men. Men are the enemy. Her father, Maze, and even Collin.

"Well... what's your  name? Do you live nearby? I haven't seen you before." He was starring right through her soul and was slowly melting her.

"Avry. I live far, far away from here." She talked way too fast.

Shade looked confused. "I'm sorry I didn't catch that." He made Jean stop and put Isaac down. Cary also got off the horse and played with Isaac and Jean.

Avry was frozen and waited for Shade. "Avry... Crest?"

What? He knows me?

"Yeah... how did you know?" He knows I'm a vampire.

Shade's eyes had a glint of fear and hate. But he disguised it with a smile. "My dad has connections. I think he knows your dad."

"Ah... I see." Liar.

"So how did you find this place, Avry?" He gestured for her to sit beside him on the grass. She obeyed but maintained a safe distance.

"I was asked to be here but he didn't show up." She was so glad General Pierce didn't come... or was he even the one who sent the letter? If he was here and saw these kids... Mage kids, he would kill them without hesitation.

"Mmm. It's really late though. It won't be safe to go home at this hour. Our house is nearby. I'm sure Cary and Isaac would enjoy more of Jean's company," Shade noticed Avry's silence. "and yours too!" He quickly added.

"Well, I'm fine with that." Avry smiled and for the first time she felt no hate from Shade anymore. He was carefree and genuinely kind again. He stood up and reached for her hand. Avry took it and felt the strong power inside him again. Definitely a Mage... but something else, too. Something much stronger...

The princess has been missing for 3 days and no one even noticed how she escaped.

General Collin Pierce have been the busiest man looking for her. There wasn't even a single alarm the night she disappeared. No guards nor wolves noticed. Not a single soul except for the servant who gave her a letter. She was the last person who has seen Avry. And she is being locked in the tower for investigation. Although she claimed that the letter was from Pierce himself, it just made him more confused. He didn't send any letter.

Surprisingly, Maze was also worried sick. He cares after all. But, of course, without Avry, he won't be able to rule as king anymore. So maybe that is still why he cares about her life...

Marching through the hallway, eyebrows knitted in anger, the Queen suddenly appeared from the hallway and almost hit Pierce.

"Your Majesty, my apologies." He bowed obediently waiting for her reply.

She giggled a little which made him look up. "Oh, General, no worries. Have you found Avry, yet? If I were you, I would stop. That brat must be dead now. Mages must've captured her. It would be very merciful of them to just kill her now." She looked so radiant and happy as if the biggest thorn has been plucked out of her. It made Pierce hate her even more. And suspiscious.

"She's really always been so gullible." Queen Allina said before leaving him with a smile that showed all her pearly white teeth and fangs.

More things ran inside Pierce's mind. But one idea surfaced... the princess didn't escape... she was captured.
