Chapter Twenty
I heard the door of my motel burst open, slapping against the wall. I gasped, sitting up, aiming the gun I had under my pillow at whoever had just burst into my room.
"Whoa! Whoa!" I blinked and saw Dean holding his hand up. I tossed my gun on the bed, sighing and feeling the freezing draft from outside on my bare legs.
"Geez, underwear and a tank? How do you stay warm?" he asked as he came and sat on my bed, lying back as I tugged on my sweats.
"With blankets? I don't lie on top of them like you." I said and moved, crawling into bed and cuddling into his side.
"So, baby sis... You're turning 25 on Sunday, and we have a case."
"Yippee," I whispered aloud, falling asleep on him. He yanked me up I gasped, grabbing him tightly. He chuckled and carried me out of the room, next door to his and put me on the bed. "You're lucky it's your birthday basically, otherwise I would be forcing you up and in a uniform." I groaned. He moved and sat down at the computer, and I was in and out of sleep when Sam walked in. "How did it go?" Dean asked.
"Um... No EMF, no sulphur, so ghost or demonic possession are probably out."
"Damn, that's where I was putting my money," Dean muttered, and I felt Sam toss his jacket on me, and I cuddled into it.
"Nope," Sam murmured.
"What then?" Dean sighed deeply, tired even. "Oh god! You guys, at the corners, you didn't see these bodies. These people started eating and continued without stopping. I mean, their stomachs were full! Like Thanksgiving dinner full!"
"Ew," I said and heard Sam intake breath.
"Y/N! I didn't even see you there." He muttered, and I shook my head, eyes still closed. "Anyway, we got our feelers out there's not much more we can do tonight. I'm just gonna throw some files, you can go ahead and get going." He said, and Dean hummed, confused.
"Sorry?"
"Go ahead? Unleash the kraken." Sam deepened his voice in a mock.
"Where am I going?" Dean asked, adjusting himself in his seat.
"Dude, it's Valentine's Day?" He asked, confused. "Your favourite holiday, remember? I mean, what do you always call it?" Sam muttered.
"Unattached Drifters Christmas," I said, and Sam snapped.
"Yeah... Be that as it may, I don't know, I guess I'm not feeling it this year." Dean got up and opened a beer.
"You're not into bars full of lonely women?" Sam asked, shocked, and Dean hummed at him.
"What?" Dean asked.
"It's when a dog doesn't eat, you know something's truly wrong," Sam said, and Dean hummed.
"Remarkably patronizing concern, Duley noted." He said. "Nothing's wrong." His voice now had a base to it, meaning drop it. "Are we gonna work or what?"
