"How can I undo all my wrong doings? I can't go to juvi!" Wynette exclaims, frazzled and upset. She hopes her parents aren't thinking about sending her to jail. Just the same, murder and suicide are the last two things on her mind at this point if she wants to make a good image for herself. "I have to get out of here," she says to herself, "or I might end up in jail. Is suicide or running away my best option here?" Poor, confused, scared, and worried Wynette. She's decided on running away and making a new life for herself as Ruby Baits. It's the best way to keep her sanity and her dignity. That night, she runs away.
The following morning, her mom walks into her room and screams down the hallway to her father, "Wynette is gone!" She begins to cry and wail. Then they see the note. It reads: Dear Mom and Dad,
I ran away. It's best for all of us. I know you were going to send me to jail so I left. I overheard you and dad talking about it.
Sincerely,
Wynette"She's gone," says her father, "forever." There's nothing her dad can do about it, but her mom can find her. She's a spy after all.
