Jesse's Girl

   How long have I been in love with Robyn Fletcher? Exactly one year, six months, eighteen days. How long had she been dating my best friend, Jesse? Exactly one year, six months, and eighteen days.

  I have no excuse for falling for her. I can’t say I knew her before they started dating. I didn’t. But I had fallen in love with her the moment Jesse introduced her as “Robyn Fletcher….my girlfriend”.

  She was nothing extraordinary; at least not at first glanced. She ususally kept her long chocolate hair straight and untampered with. She didn’t have an amazing body. She was pretty average; even her gorgeous chestnut eyes could be sorely mistaken as ordinary. She never wore any wild clothes; she was very tame.

  But then she wasn’t. She was wild and beautiful with an amazing heart. She was thoughtful and quirky; kind and stubborn. Ice and fire. Wind and rain. Light and darkness. She was everything. All this I noticed at first glance.

  It was love at first sight, for me, anyway. I had been dropping hints that I liked her for a long while after the day we met, but she either ignored me or didn’t notice. Once I got that she felt nothing for me, I backed up. Became distant. Practically acted like the girl didn’t exist. Jess got pissed at me all the time, saying how I should at least attempt to be friendly to his girlfriend.

  It killed me to see them together. But it killed me more that Robyn had no interest in me whatsoever; that she’d rather be with Jesse. Don’t get me wrong, Jesse was a great guy; he was my best friend. But he was with the girl that was meant for me. I knew she was the one. But I waited patiently every day, looking for any signs that she might feel something for me so that I could whisk her off her feet and take her away with me.

  And then Jesse asked me to be his best man at his wedding. He was going to marry Robyn! My Robyn! I couldn’t watch them get married, let alone be his best man.

  I had to stop this wedding.

A/N This story was inspired by the Rick Springfield song “Jesse’s Girl”. I’m thinking of doing a few short stories inspired by songs. They’ll all be under ten chapters.
