“I can’t believe we’re here!” exclaimed Lola

"I know right! I feel like I’ve been waiting for this day for such a long time.”

When growing up, my parents and I never travelled much. Mom had a passion for pottery and anything that had to do with drawing. So she decided to open a petite boutique where she could sell her own potteries. Daddy did the same thing. He followed his dream and is now working as a journalist.

“Sophie! You’re all right?! Why are you crying?!” Lola said far too worried than she should be.

“It’s nothing. I’m all right.” I lied hoping that she would believe me and just drop it.

The truth was I missed mom and dad so much. It’s been about 2 years now that I haven’t seen them. I just wish they could be here with me. I want to share this moment with them so bad. Bu I know that they are with me, spiritually. On the road, I told Lola that I would call mom and dad after my audition.

“That’s a great idea.” She said “In fact, I wanted to ask them about the potteries I ordered.”

“No problem” I said opening the front entrance door of the X-Factor building.

Lola and I took the elevator and it directly brought us to the contestant holding room. This is where all of the performing contestants were. It was pretty full and big. There were people exchanging conversations and some singing. Once in we directly sat on the corner of the room and waited. We weren’t the only one. There were hundredth more. To be honest, I was more nervous than I thought. I didn’t even know that I was shaking until Lola asked me how nervous I was.

“Very nervous” I responded

“Sophie, you don’t have to be worried at all. You have an incredible voice and everybody knows that. I’m pretty sure you’ll get “yes” from all of the judges.” she said.

“Thanks Lola." I said giving her a hug.

On the way we met Andrea White. She’s a 21 year old solo singer. I would consider here on the Rock N Roll category based on her outfit and personality. She wore black leather pants and blouse with really dark makeup. I thought she had a funny accent but a very enjoyable voice when singing.

“It’s fun, isn’t it?” Andrea asked Lola with a huge smile on her face that made me smile.

“Yeah, it’s really fun.” Lola responded

“And really loud.” I said as a loud voice abruptly erupted from the other corner of the room.

“I know right. I can’t even hear my own voice.”

Lola, Andrea and I sat there for about three hours chatting. Then, my name was called to come backstage. I immediately rose and so did Lola. We said our “see you later” to Andrea and followed the manager. We had to wait backstage for my turn.

“I’m so happy for you Sophie.” Lola said “I mean we’ve been here for almost 36 hours and it’s all going to pay off.”

“Lola?”

“yeah?

“If I don’t get through…”

“Sophie! Don’t say that!”

“Lola can you please hear me out?” I said

“Ok. Go ahead.” She said with a sorrow tone.

“If I don’t get through, please promise me that we’ll directly go home and that you’ll finally have your date with Justin? Pleeeease?” I said. Lola was about to answer but another voice cut her off.

“Miss Smith? We’re ready for your audition” said a man from the crew

“Thanks” I said as I took the microphone from him and headed on the stage.

“Break a leg Sophie! Love you!” Shouted Lola but I was already at the stage. And she was barely audible.

As I walked on the stage, I was amazed of how many people there were. I was also very nervous. I have never performed in front of a crowd this big.

“Hi!” I said as I stopped and faced the judges.

“Hello! What’s your name sweetie?” Demi Lovato said

“Hi! I’m Sophie Smith!” I said more excited than I thought

“And how old are you?”

“I’m 17 years old.”

“So what will you be singing for us today?”

“I will be singing Feeling Good by Nina Simone” I said while shaking a bit.

“Sweetie, did you rehearse? Because I bet that you know that Feeling Good is a really hard song to sing and it also has many high notes, right?

“Yes, I’ve rehearsed before coming on stage.” I said.  And that was true. I rehearsed a lot before even the X-Factor season started.

“Well, good luck.” Simon Cowell said before the song began

(Author’s note: Hi guys! Sorry for the interruption. I just wanted to say that I won’t be writing the whole song because I think it would be boring just to read the words and not to listen the actual song. Ok that’s it! I’m done talking…. ENJOY!)

(Sophie singing)

Birds flying high you know how I feel

Sun in the sky you know how I feel

Breeze driftin’ on by you know how I feel

It’s a new dawn

It’s a new day

It’s a new life for me

And I’m feeling good

(End of song)

When I finished singing the last note, all the judges rose up. And when I say “all the judges rose up”, I mean all of the judges including Simon Cowell. I was pretty happy about that. I knew that Simon Cowell was a tough judge and him applauding and getting up for me meant that I did a decent job.

“Thank you” was the only thing that came to mind

“Sweetie, we are the one who want to thank you for coming” Demi said “you has such a strong and beautiful voice that can sing any song. So congratulation”

“Thank you” I said. Again that was the only word that came out of my mouth.

“I just want to say that a star is born!” Exclaimed Simon. And with that tears started rolling down my cheeks.

“So Sophie, here’s the important part to come. So guys, let’s say it in unison shall we?” said Simon

“And on 1 2 3 …. YES!” They said together

“Thank you! Thank you so much!” I said crying while getting out of the stage

I then immediately ran off the stage and went to Lola and gave her hug. I was so happy. All of these years of hard-working have finally paid off in a five minute performance.

“I guess I won’t be having my date with Justin tomorrow, I am?” Lola said laughing and I joined in. It sure looked like she won’t I thought.
