Runny Thoughts

Runny thoughts that wove through the dark recesses in my mind

They seeped into the microscopic cracks

Soaked into the soil of my memories

Runny thoughts froze in the cracks when winter arived

They froze and expanded

Making the crack wider

Larger

Deeper

They were harder to climb out of, the cracks

My runny thoughts had froze

Into an ice-leaden mine field

They were slippery, everywhere, dangerous

Be careful where you step, I told myself

Be careful who you trust, I begged myself

Be careful what you share, I pleaded with myself

You didn't listen, I scolded myself

Because the icy wasteland had a frozen beauty

A forbidden secret

Just on the other side

And I didn't listen

I took a step out onto my frozen thoughts

And they creaked and moaned

But did not budge

Because they were held in place by the frigid winter

So I went out further into the minefield

That appeared as harmless as a meadow

In my lost mind

I took another step

And the thoughts creaked and moaned

And I saw my haggard reflection on the frozen thoughts

I jumped and gasped

And they creaked and moaned

And broke

So I fell, into the melted thoughts

Because spring is coming

And my thoughts overflowed into streams

And some stayed in the gouges, the melted thoughts stayed

To remind of what shouldn't have happened

To serve as warning

For my strangled self

My broken self

I wouldn't venture out

Again
