We have shoes on our feet,
Clothes on our bodies,
Ribbons in our hair.
We have food on our plates,
Water in our cups,
Milk in our fridge.
We have blankets on our beds,
Roofs on our houses,
Trees in our yards.
We complain
In the summer
When our air conditioners are set too cold.
We complain
In the fall
When we eat too much food at thanksgiving.
We complain
In the winter
When the snow gets up our gloves.
We complain
In the spring
When the flowers give us allergies.
Some people don't have air conditioners,
Massive amounts of food,
Gloves for the cold,
Allergy medication.
Yet we still complain.
I wake up at nine
And drink water from my faucet.
She wakes up earlier
And walks all day to bring her family water.
Dirty water.

I complain about school,
And she dreams about being able to attend.
But it's impossible
All because of water.
Sometimes I complain
Too much.
Sometimes I complain
About complaining.
Maybe I should stop complaining
And start making a difference.
Inspired by A Long Walk to Water.
It's a good book.
