The sun rose gently over the Red Pack territory, painting the sky in soft pink and gold. The celebration from the night before still lingered in the air the echo of laughter, the smell of roasted meat, and the soft hum of a pack content and proud. Amber stood outside her family's house, the cool morning breeze brushing through her hair. The grass glimmered with dew, and birds sang above the tall pines that surrounded their land. She took a deep breath, her wolf Star purring in her mind, content and calm. Ready for your first day, future alpha? Nathan's voice came from behind her, deep and warm. Amber turned and smiled. He was still dressed casually from breakfast, his black hair messy, his dark eyes filled with quiet pride. His wolf, a sleek black beast named Shadow, stirred behind those eyes. "Maybe," Amber teased softly. "But I'm not the Alpha yet. My parents still have ten more years." Nathan chuckled. "True, but that doesn't mean we can't learn early. Besides, your mom said today's lesson will be interesting." Amber tilted her head. "Did she say what it was?" Nathan shook his head. "Only that it's a test of heart." Before she could ask more, Rose appeared from the main house. Her long Jair glowed in the morning light, her soft eyes calm but powerful. She carried then air of a Luna graceful, wise, and strong. "Amber, Nathan," Rose greeted with a warm smile. "Good morning. I hope you both rested well.'' "We did, Mother," Amber replied. "What's today's lesson?" Rose smiled knowingly. "You'll see. For now, come with me. The pack is waiting." They followed her to the training field. Several pack members were already there Elijah, the calm and loyal Beta of the Moon Pack, Benjamin, a cheerful warrior from the River Pack; Molly, the witch her hair tied back; and Katia and Michael, the two humans who had become part of their circle. Amber felt a spark of pride seeing them together wolves, witches, and humans standing as one. Rose turned to the group. "Today," she began, her voice carrying easily over the field, "isn't about strength or power. It's about leadership and understanding the heart of a pack." Amber felt her mother's eyes settle on her. "I want Amber and Nathan to lead a short session this morning," Rose continued. "You'll face a small challenge a situation I've prepared. Your task is to resolve it as a leader would. Remember, power isn't always the answer.'' Amber blinked, caught slightly off guard. Nathan gave her a small nod. We can do this, he said through their link. She nodded back. Rose motioned toward Elijah and Benjamin, who stepped forward, pretending to argue. "I told you the training were supposed to be finished yesterday," Elijah said, his tone serious. Benjamin crossed his arms. "I was helping fix the norther fence, not sitting around! You can't do everything by rules, Elijah." The argument sounded real convincing enough to make Molly frown. Amber hesitated, feeling the tension between them. Nathan leaned toward her. "Your call, Alpha," he whispered teasingly. Amber took a slow breath and stepped forward. "Elijah, Benjamin," she said clearly. "You both serve the pack, just in different ways. Elijah, your sense of duty keeps things running. Benjamin, your hands-on work keeps us safe. We need both." The two men looked at her, waiting. Amber smiled slightly. "So here's what we'll do Elijah, you'll finish the reports today with my help. Benjamin, you'll take a few young wolves to double-check the repaired fence. Both are equally important." There was silence them Elijah nodded, smiling faintly. "That's fair.' Benjamin laughed. "See, that's why she's the future Alpha.'' The pack murmured in agreement, pride warming the air. Rose's lips curved in approval. Amber felt something inside her glow not power, but peace. Maybe this is what mom meant by heart. The morning continued with small exercises teaching the young wolves teamwork, helping Molly practice her spells safely, and guiding the humans through wolf customs. Amber and Nathan moved easily together, their bond shining in every glance, every smile. Later, during beneath the shade of the old oak, the pack gathered again. Jaden and Brianna ran through the grass, laughing as they chased each other, their wolves energy already flickering in their young eyes. "Slow down, pups!" John, the Alpha, called from his seat, laughing as they tumbled over each other. Amber watched them, her heart swelling. "They're growing so fast," she said softly. Rose smiled beside her. "Yes. They'll find their  own paths someday. Jaden's spirit is strong he'll lead a pack of his own one day. And Brianna she'll have a mate worthy of her heart.'' Amber looked at her mother, realizing Rose wasn't just talking about the twins. She was reminding her of something deeper the future never stops moving forward. After lunch, Rose led Amber and Nathan to the river's edge. The air was quiet except for the soft rush of water. "You handled today's challenge well," Rose said, her tone calm but proud. "Leadership isn't about who shouts loudest. It's about who listens best.'' Amber lowered her eyes modestly. "I just tried to be fair.'' Rose smiled. "And that's why you'll be a great Luna and one day, Alpha. But remember, Amber your greatest power isn't your fire, or your healing, or even your sight. It's your heart. Never let the world harden it.'' Amber swallowed, emotion tightening her throat. "I won't Mother." Rose reached out, resting a hand on her shoulder. "Good. Because soon, the choices you make will affect more than this pack. They'll shape the future of all wolves." Amber didn't fully understand, but she nodded. The wind brushed through the trees, carrying the scent of pine and something almost magical as if the spirits of their ancestors were watching. Nathan stepped closer, his hand finding hers. "Whatever comes, we face it together," he said quietly. Amber smiled, feeling warmth spread through her chest. "Always." Behind them, Rose turned to John, who had joined silently. "She's ready," Rose said softly. John nodded, pride in his golden eyes. "The path has begun." And as the sun dipped below the horizon, the Red Pack howled together not in battle, but in harmony. The future Alpha and her mate stood at the center of it all, their hands entwined, hearts united, and destiny quietly stirring beyond the forest's edge.
