Marie:

Chapter 11

Two lifeless bodies. A mask. A coward of a man shaking in the corner as I approached him. A blade of lightning in each hand. I couldn't feel it. Why was I doing this again? I raised one of my blades and froze halfway through a downward slash as the sound of police cars raced past the building. They weren't coming for me, just passing by, but a man's face came to mind. A semi-disgusted scowl on his face that I somehow knew meant more. He was important to me. I'd made my spector kiss him. Kono.

The electric blades in my hands vanished and I gripped the sides of my head. I was coming out of my doll state. No. No! Turning away from the already injured contractor, I stopped at the sight of his two dead friends. "What have I done?"

The man in the corner stood, using the wall for support. His voice sounded like it was in awe of me, "You're back to normal."

My whole body felt like it was closing in on itself. I covered my eyes and screamed. I'd killed again. After all of my promises and every goal I'd set, it had been pointless. I was cursed to be a killer.

I ran out of the building while the contractor collapsed beside his dead friends. My running was irrational and without purpose. I was just going to run until I couldn't run anymore. I was a monster. A creature without gentle purpose. No place could be called home. No one would ever want me around, but I couldn't kill myself either...not yet. My breaths were staggered when my foot caught a curb in a quiet slum part of the city. I didn't know where I was at while I lay on the deserted sidewalk. A nameless monster on a nameless street. It sounded fitting enough. My eyes shut and wouldn't open again, even when I felt something roll me onto my back and pick me up. I couldn't hear anything. Was this death? Or was I just praying for something that wouldn't come true.

                                                                       ******

Something cool and wet was touching my forehead. I squinted as I forced my eyes to open. I was in a strange room on an unfamiliar bed. A woman sat close by with a kind smile, "Good afternoon, young lady. Now don't you worry. You're safe here. We won't hurt you."

I sat up slowly and a cloth dropped from my head, "Where am I?"

She picked up the material and handed me a glass of water, "Sorry. My husband said I wasn't supposed to say. It's for our protection, so don't panic. We don't want any enemies to find us. We'll be happy to let you leave, but my husband wants to speak with you before you do."

I nodded, "Alright. Can I ask who you are?"

The woman laughed, "Of course you can. My name is Shia. What about you?"

I coughed after I took a drink of the water. The liquid had just gone down the wrong pipe, "Marie."

She opened the bedroom door to the hallway, "If you think you're alright to stand, you can follow me."

I was fine on my feet. My head still spun though as I walked with her two doors to the left before she led me into a living room area. A conversation between a man in his late twenties and four guys around eighteen to nineteen stopped. The oldest smiled and stood from his chair at the table, "Hey, look at that. The girl is finally awake."

I tensed with an unsure tone, "How long was I out?"

The man chuckled, "Two days with a high fever. How do you feel?"
